Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.
More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that’s cruelly ripped open when Claire’s husband is killed.
The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: What could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago … and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.
Powerful, poignant, and utterly gripping, packed with indelible characters and unforgettable twists, Pretty Girls is a masterful novel from one of the finest writers working today.
Included with this gripping thriller is Karin Slaughter’s chilling short story “Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes.”

True crime writer Wylie Lark doesn’t mind being snowed in at the isolated farmhouse where she’s retreated to write her new book. A cozy fire, complete silence. It would be perfect, if not for the fact that decades earlier, at this very house, two people were murdered in cold blood and a girl disappeared without a trace.

Slow start but really picks up
The book starts off pretty slow at first but once it got going, I found it difficult to put down.
It was also my first Slaughter book so the graphic parts of the book definitely surprised me. Readers that are easily unsettled might want to skip this one.

Incredible. Suspenseful.
I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole story. Incredibly well written and well told. Quite graphic in some parts, so if you have triggers around rape or violence, I don’t recommend this book. But the story comes around full circle and was worthwhile, even the cringey parts, in the end.

Engaging story and fairly violent
Karin Slaughter captures her characters really well. And Early’s narration is spot on. It is violent but not gratuitously. Unless rape and dismemberment is considered gratuitous...

Not my taste
I was surprised to not like this, friends have listened and read this book and raved about it.
I’ve never read this author before and decided to give it a shot however the style of her writing is not my fave.
I find it overly written, it’s long (I’m stopping with still 8 hours of audio to go) soooo long and I’m wanting it to move faster. The “twist” is already given away and I honestly don’t care enough about the characters (or can tell with 100% certainty which character is which) at this point to find out the rest of what happens.

Best Thriller I’ve Ever Read
THIS WAS THE BEST THRILLER I’VE EVER READ! It was so compelling, exciting, terrifying and poignant. It was definitely DARK so I would recommend looking into the content/ trigger warnings, but if you love mysteries, this is a great book to read! Also the narrator Kathleen Early was outstanding.
