À propos de cet audio

The Divided Mind is the crowning achievement of Dr. John E. Sarno's long and successful career as a groundbreaking medical pioneer. While his earlier books dealt almost exclusively with musculoskeletal pain disorders, here Dr. Sarno addresses the entire spectrum of psychosomatic (mind-body) disorders. In Dr. Sarno's view, the crucial interaction between the reasonable, rational, ethical, moral conscious mind and the repressed feelings of emotional pain, hurt, sadness, and anger characteristic of the unconscious mind is the basis for many mind-body disorders.

The Divided Mind traces the history of psychosomatic medicine, including Freud's crucial role as well as his failures. Most important, it describes the psychology of the human condition that is responsible for the broad range of psychosomatic illness. Dr. Sarno believes that the failure of medicine's practitioners to recognize and appropriately treat mind-body disorders has produced public health and economic problems of major proportions in the United States. One of the most interesting and important aspects of psychosomatic phenomena is the fact that knowledge and awareness of the process clearly have healing powers.

I appreciated the narration, the content and the interview with the author after the book.

Unconventional way to heal chronic pain

So excited by the idea that the brain can seemingly distract the conscious mind from becoming aware of and navigating deep-seated emotions including rage by creating physical pain and disease...all because the ego thinks the conscious mind is too delicate to handle those emotions.

And yet, through awareness, acceptance, and committed practice the brain can also be convinced to change its mind so that no distraction is needed, because there's no actual threat.

Super cool.

If you're reading these reviews then you are still stuck in your pain. I am a 25 year chronic low back pain sufferer. I found Dr. Sarno's books one month ago and read all three. My pain went away one week later and has not been back since even during one of the most stressful two weeks of my entire life.

Healing Back Pain is the Bible for TMS. Read that one first and then his other two. Then if you feel you still need more search Steve Ozanich.

Steve's work is fantastically complementary and important. He is the leading go to guy today for TMS since the passing of Dr. Sarno. Dr. Sarno and Steve are all you need.

I found this book very helpful. It explains the nature of chronic pain in a way I’ve never considered. Well worth the listen!

Very informative

I listened for an hour and the only thing he said in favor of his cause was 1 anecdotal story. the rest was ripping conventional methods.

says he doesn't need proof to prove his theory, then spends an hour attacking conventional methods for not having proof/not being able to fix all edge cases.

I couldn't take the "they wouldn't play with me so I wrote mean things about them on the internet" vibe I was getting every 30 seconds.

Written like he has a chip on his shoulder
