Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.
This predictable pattern is upended when Patricia meets James Harris, a handsome stranger who moves into the neighborhood to take care of his elderly aunt and ends up joining the book club. James is sensitive and well-read, and he makes Patricia feel things she hasn't felt in 20 years. But there's something off about him. He doesn't have a bank account, he doesn't like going out during the day, and Patricia's mother-in-law insists that she knew him when she was a girl, an impossibility.
When local children go missing, Patricia and the book club members start to suspect James is more of a Bundy than a Beatnik, but no one outside of the book club believes them. Have they read too many true crime books, or have they invited a real monster into their homes?

I couldn’t put it down !
This was absolutely amazing. The narration was great, and the story was captivating. It was like Desperate Housewives meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I found myself laughing out loud and screaming in shock at]long the way.

Skip the middle.
The narrator for this novel is fantastic! Hands down the best I’ve listened too overall. She brings each character to life and does it with amazing ease.
The first half of the book is enjoyable as is the second half of part two. But, the middle? I’m not sure why the editor didn’t recommend rewrites to cut out multiple chapters. Honestly, I finally decided on skipping about 6 chapters in the beginning of section two.
Overall, an enjoyable listen.

Maybe better in text?
I was excited about this one, but in listening to it I became quickly annoyed at the constant use of the word 'said'. Or perhaps it's how it was being read. I just mentally couldn't keep going.

Unexpectedly delightful.
I went into this expecting a goofy romp. It was a free download, so why not? Little did I know how surprised and delighted I would be. This was just the right amount of trashy to be fun, but the horror scenes literally gave me goosebumps and I could not stop listening.

What a story!!
This book was amazing. Great character development, great story line, and great narration.
It caught me by surprise how much I enjoyed this book. And a unique take on vampires! Loved it.

Worth Sinking Your Teeth Into ; )
Difficult to sum up this witty and highly entertaining listen about an unsuspecting group of fine and proper southern gals who go head on into battle with a vampire! It's so incredibly well written and perfectly narrated which just adds to the enjoyment. Full of surprise, mystery, and gore, it's not what you'd expect all all but, it's a real treat! This would be a fun movie to watch. Even better, I hope there is a second book!
