As the days pass with no clear answers, not only is human life at stake but so too is that of a majestic creature who carries with it valuable evidence. Ted's search for truth takes him far into the wilderness, on the trail of a killer, and eventually to a shocking and unexpectedly personal conclusion.

Better Than I Anticipated
Montana author Christine Carbo offers a fairly uncomplicated procedural about a Federal LEO returning to his home turf to uncover the killer of a Meth-addict ne'er-do-well tied to a tree and half-eaten by a Grizzly Bear. The forensics/interviews informing the investigation are straightforward but well-described.. and the author's focus on psychological responses to trauma is intuitive (if a little heavyhanded at times).
As to presentation: R.C. Bray is among my top five audiobook performers - and he's on his game in this one. His voice-acting is a little bit limited (given the author's fairly specific accent parameters in-text), but does his very best to elevate the book. Blackstone Audio Inc. cast this project brilliantly.
I rate 'The Wild Inside' 7/10 stars. It's overly focused on developing the 'Ted Systead' character, annoyingly plodding at times, and relatively unimaginative in terms of plotting - but worth your time if you can get it as a 'Plus' option. It may even be worth your Credit if - like me - you're impressed by capable character exposition.
It wasn't good enough to prompt me to continue with the 'Glacier Mysteries' series of books, mind you.. but was a solidly entertaining distraction for a couple of quiet afternoons.
[NOTE: The amount of jurisdictional conflict in this story is mindblowing. I appreciate Carbo's dedication to authenticity, but the emphasis given to Federal vs State vs Local vs Park Police authority (logistics, really) is inordinate & slightly offputting]

Enjoyed this.
Enjoyed this story. Good narration. Not sure if I can appreciate how nothing really came together until the last chapter. But it is what it is.

Great concept, performance- but not strong writing.
Oddly awkward writing, so the story and performance weren’t able to move past it. Wasn’t there an editor that could save this?

Nature, Trauma, Murder most foul.
The exquisite knowledge and portrayal of the natural world, in all its splendor and cruelty, combined with the permeating effects of childhood trauma were surprisingly rich additions to the prototypical crime and suspense novel. The read is a little slow moving but if you can allow yourself to take in the character development and scene setting, it makes for a good listen/read. Not overly predictable and sufficiently intriguing, this book is worth the investment. No gratuitous foul language (when it is there it serves a purpose). No sexually explicit content. Small considerations I appreciate!

Loved it!
I really enjoyed all four of Christine Carbo's Glacier Park books. I wish she wrote more! The main characters are well developed and complex. Backstories weave with present life in an interesting way. Well narrated. These books are well worth the read!

Glimpse into a different world
My first read by this author. I really enjoyed the story. My husband grew up on the Canadian side of Glacier, in Waterton and there were so many details that echoed his stories. I felt the author had done her research about the various law and government agencies involved. The plot draws you in at a slow burn. Definitely a worthwhile read and one well narrated also.

Great narrator!
The story, it's plot and characters were well-developed. The landscape in winter was a character on its own. I felt like I was there, in the description of the starry sky and lapping of the waves. The narrator's pace and voice were mesmerizing - essential for a mystery.

Good story
I enjoyed the story by Christine Carbo, but I found the narration by R.C. Bray to be quite monotonous, monotone, plodding. It's too bad because the story was good and I enjoyed the characters, but I had to fight to get past the boring tone of the narration.
