6 Secrets to Love Exercise as a Woman Struggling with Motivation

  • Motivation doesn't actually exist in my opinion. I believe you have a drive to get healthy, but it's discipline that gets you there. Here are 6 ways to build a habit of exercise when you're struggling to even start.

    1. Find one you actually enjoy! If you're doing the newest popular workout and hate it, stop! Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do, it is NOT a punishment. There are so my styles of workouts; dance cardio, yoga, Pilates, weights, body weight. I have recently fallen in LOVE with primal/yoga workouts and am doing a 20-minute program that has completely changed my life AND my body. So, find something you love, it should leave you sore and struggling, but not dreading the next one.

    2. Start with 1-2 days. I've worked with women for years who have an all or nothing mindset, I operated in that for years and still struggle at times. But it never works, pick 1-2 days to start at a time that makes you feel good. Let's leave old habits that don't serve us!

    3. Find the time that works in your schedule and schedule it like a hair appointment you would never miss! Maybe ask God to give you the right time and He will! I started working out in the evening but found I ate better if I did mornings, so I practiced my morning routine and now that's what works. Find yours!

    4. ONE workout at a time. Did you hear me? ONE! One workout, one day at a time. We're remove the all or nothing mindset and remember that God's word says to not focus on tomorrow. What CAN you do today? That is enough! Pray for His strength, not yours.

    5. Workout when sore or you'll be MORE sore. The calendar I follow is created to bust out lactic acid so if you do leg day one day and cardio is the next, do it. It may be a struggle at first, but by the end you'll feel a million times better! I tell my students to trust the process!

    6. 30 minutes is all you need. Going to the gym, overtraining for an hour will never help you build consistency. I prefer at home workouts, it's how I've built consistency. Again, do what works for you, but all you need is a good sweat in 30 minutes. Do NOT overtrain.
