  • Chapter 9: “Dopesick” what they got right and why you should be watching pt 2
    Apr 4 2022

Warning ⚠️ : This episode does talk about addiction and drug use.

In part 2 of Chapter 9: Dopesick, I will be going over Episode 4 which is entitled “Pseudo-Addiction”. I felt that this episode needed to have its own podcast because it really gets into the heart of how greedy Big Pharma can be and how detrimental it is to those who get addicted.

We follow along with the emerging court case which is based in criminal rebranding. We also see the addiction progression of Betsy and Dr Finnix. We see the Sacklers find David Haddix who has them use the term Pseudo-Addiction to bypass the thought that their drug is getting people addicted and is causing a spike in crime, while making them more money with a spike in sales. We will also learn what the term dopesick actually means!

  • Chapter 9: “Dopesick” What they got right and why you should be watching pt1
    Mar 14 2022

Warning ⚠️ this episode does mention drug use and overdose discretion is advised.

In this three part chapter I will be giving a synopsis on Hulu’s “Dopesick”. I will be discussing what they got right in regards to their telling of the case against Perdue Pharma and the Sackler family. I will also talk about what they got right in terms of the opioid crisis in this country.

In part 1 I will be going over the first three episodes and introducing some of the characters and the beginning of the case against the Sacklers. We are also introduced to the drug Oxy and given the line the pharmesutical reps are told to give Dr’s, that less than 1% will become addicted. We also begin to see the toll it takes on the people who were prescribed and how it in a short time brought the rise of overdose, crime typically associated with street drugs, and child abandonment.

Stay tuned for the next two parts where I will go over episodes 4-8.

  • Chapter 8:Social Construct
    Mar 4 2022

Warning ⚠️ this episode does mention rape, abortion, and suicide if these are triggers for you please pass on this episode. National Suicide Hotline is 1-800-273-8255 and the trans Suicide Prevention Hotline is (877) 565-8860.

In this episode I will be giving my opinion and some facts about the bills that have tragically been passed in Texas and in Florida. In Texas the governor’s office passed a bill that would hold investigations on families of transgender children who either have started or have thought about taking hormones or hormone blockers in preparation for gender re assignment surgery and how the governor believes it is child abuse. This is a disgusting abuse of mixing church and state and is very detrimental to those children and their families.

In Florida the “Don’t Say Gay” bill was passed meaning schools cannot speak on or teach about sexual orientation or gender. This bill also horribly allows teachers to OUT kids to their parents, which is a horrible detriment to that child’s well being.

To all the families and all the children out there going through this know that I stand with you. Allies need to step up and support these kids and their families. And to the parents of these kids that are open , supportive, and loving THANK YOU! You are a shining example of what it means to be a great parent. To those whose parents don’t support you, know this I do, and so do many other Allie’s. You are amazing the way you are and you are worthy to love, be loved, and live your life in your own way!

In this episode I also talk about the importance of pronouns. It is so important to be respectful of a persons pronouns whether it is they/them, she/her, he/him or even she/they or he/they.

To all my transgender and non-binary friends and colleagues, I see you, I love and respect you, and I will do everything I can to be a good ally to you!

  • Chapter 7: Coming Out in the World of the IFB…from Culture of Abuse to Culture of Acceptance with Special Guest Ginny (pt 2 in the IFB series)
    Jan 28 2022

Special guest Ginny talks with me about her coming out story in the world of the IFB (Independent Fundamental Baptist). We also talk about what it was like growing up in the culture of abuse and how we processed how our mental health was suppressed and could have been seriously damaged because of this religious abuse. Though we both were never victims of physical abuse the spiritual abuse we endured because of the doctrine that surrounded the Church we grew up in. Escaping fundamentalism, because that is what it was, has allowed both of us to live a more open and happier life.

This was not only a great catch up with a long time friend but was a therapeutic session in its own right. The fear the Church drilled into us for so long is something that we both are now able to chip away at, and hopefully this episode will help someone going through the same situation. #mentalhealthawareness #escapingfundamentalism #IFB #lgbtqia

  • Chapter 6: Culture of Abuse (a potential 2 part series on the IFB)
    Jan 21 2022

Let me preface this by saying this is not an attack on Christianity period.

In this episode I begin the discussion on the IFB church, their doctrine and how it can lead to a culture of abuse. This is the denomination that the ever problematic Duggars belong to. In this denomination it is an authoritarian patriarchal system. Women are second class and don’t really have a voice…no matter how much they think they might.

This is also a denomination that practices canvassing, where they want to make sure you know just how much of a sinner you really are and try to get you “saved”. Speaking of sin they preach the doctrine of Separation(look it up on Baptistdeception.com they explain it really well) which means you don’t associate yourself with anything “worldly” meaning no music that has a beat…that’s Satans music 🙄🙄🙄… no alcohol, no tv, etc. This also gives in to the love the sinner hate the sin bullshit. This means that you can love someone who is a member of the LGBTQ community but you hate their lifestyle…which MEANS YOU HATE THEM!!!! I mean come on if a persons sexuality affects your belief there is something wrong with you not them!

This is a denomination that can foster the culture of abuse by keeping the victim quiet and making sure the man is forgiven and never really at fault.

This is why many people don’t want to practice Christianity and honestly I don’t blame them. If more churches would be less “spiritually superior” and more loving and inclusive like Christ many more people would want to know what Christianity is about.

In what I hope is part 2 I will have some guests (at least one) that will join me in the discussion of why we left the “cult” and how our faith has changed and grown.

If you want to know more about the IFB listen to the Preacher Boys Podcast there are many episodes that go into depth about the culture of abuse and how it is fostered.

  • Chapter 5: Forging Your Own Path in this Thing Called Life
    Jan 6 2022

Edit: I do say chapter 7 in this episode but it is in reality chapter 5 😂

Getting vulnerable on the pod…. In this episode I give my own personal account of aging, not giving any f*cks, living and functioning with depression and anxiety, and learning to not care what negativity comes my way.

In doing this episode I hope that anyone who listens or watches takes the mindset of doing what’s best for them into this new year! Remember you do you boo and don’t worry about what others think! If you aren’t hurting anyone else do what makes you happy!!! Wear that crop top, listen to whatever music you want, watch cartoons while being over 40, go back to school etc! Do what you can to live your best life and make your mental health a priority! Listen to your iWatch when it says to take a minute for mindfulness!

Sending much love and light in this New Year! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

  • Chapter 4: Why is it Criminal pt 2 with special guest Renee
    Dec 23 2021

Trigger warning⚠️: in this episode we will be discussing addiction, self harm, and suicide. The number for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline is 1-800-273-8255. If you or a loved one need someone to talk to please reach out!

In the second part of this topic my very special guest Renee will be giving a mental health focused discussion on why self harm to the point of detriment is a medical emergency, but addiction to that point is criminal.

Renee is a licensed therapist…and my best friend… and gives a great perspective on why addiction is a mental health issue and why it needs to be treated as such. She explains this issue so thoroughly and with such compassion you will understand why she is so good at what she does! Though I may be bias, this episode is such a good topic and Renee is such an eloquent speaker you can really grasp why mental health is a subject that needs to have more time and attention given to it in the health care field!

With this topic please remember if you or a loved one are struggling with mental health illness or addiction reach out for help. Don’t hold it in to the point of self destruction, because you are worthy of help and you are worthy of love and to be cared about!

  • Chapter 4: Why is it Criminal? PT1
    Dec 16 2021

Trigger Warning: This episode does talk about drug use, self harm, and suicide prevention.

In this episode I will begin the conversation as to why drug use to the point of overdose is considered criminal, or is handled by the criminal justice system, but self harm to the point of detriment is a medical emergency issue.

I will discuss about the Reagan administrations "War on Drugs" and how it was racially motivated and detrimental to the well being of addicts who need help on a mental health level.

Part two of this chapter will be with a special guest who will not only be giving her opinion but will be giving a more psychological insight into both mental health issues.
