    Grace be unto you

    1 Corinthians 1:1-9

Apostle of Jesus Christ.” This is an official office with extraordinary authority in the early church history. It is inseparably related to Jesus Christ. The word means “messenger.” It was an unique office for the early spreading of the Gospel. There is no such thing as apostolic succession.

    The Great Commission

    Matthew 28:16-20

    The eleven disciples” verse 16

The word “eleven” reminds of the loss of Judas Iscariot who betrayed Christ then later committed suicide. Judas’ loss reduced the count of the disciples to eleven. The case of Judas has many modern-day illustrations, such folk start well and seem to be ready and willing to serve Christ. But they fall out by the way and do not make it into His service.

All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” verse 18 To understand this text on power, it is important to know that the word translated “power” primarily means “authority” not strength or might. Before Christ gives the disciples the commission, He first informs them of the authority for the commission.

if you would fulfill the great commission given you, you must recognize Him as authority over you.

    The Report of the Guard

    Matthew 28:11-15

Some of the watch” Verse 11 Not all of the watch went to the religious leaders of the Jews to report what had happened. While “some” went to do the reporting, the others fled from the area. The trauma at the tomb had destroyed military discipline among the guards. They all forsake their post, a very grave failure in military conduct.

    The Resurrection

    Matthew 28:1-10

In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week” Verse 1 Women are prominent in the post resurrection record of the Scripture. As soon as it was light outside, women headed for the tomb of Christ. Both devotion (love for Christ) and dedication (early rising) are seen in the time these women came to the sepulcher. They came as soon as it was light enough to come. Other Gospel accounts tell us the purpose of their coming which was to put more spices on the corpse of Christ—they did not think Joseph of Arimathea did an adequate job. He was hurried because of the time and the women watched him prepare the body. So these women eagerly return to the sepulcher as soon as it was practical.

    The Guard at the Tomb

    Matthew 27:62-66

We remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again” verse 63

These religious leaders vented their hatred of Christ quickly when they called Him “that deceiver.” These words are translated from a word which means “vagabond imposter

The memory of the enemies of Christ was better than the memory of Christ’s disciples when it came to the resurrection message. The disciples did not pay attention to this message, for they did not want nor think Christ would die. All Christ’s predictions about His death and promises about the resurrection were unheeded by the disciples. But Christ’s enemies heard and remembered the message

    Jesus Is Buried

    Matthew 27:57-61

There came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph” verse 57 The man who provided the tomb for Christ was a wealthy man. It seems that most earthly wealth is controlled by the ungodly; but there are a few exceptions among the wealthy, such as Joseph of Arimathea, who are friends of the Gospel.

    The Death of Jesus

    Matthew 27:45-56

Death was announced by the cry of Christ on the cross. The actual cry, “It is finished,” is recorded only in John 19:30.

The crucifixion was not a victory for the devil and a defeat of God. It was not an unplanned event or unexpected event for God. It was planned (I Peter 1:18–20; Revelation 13:8) and carried out to the letter by God and Christ.
