How are you feeling today?
Take that one moment to answer that question for yourself.
Give yourself 20 minutes every day for your personal development.
Today I am so excited to share a chapter from my book Embrace and Value Your Difference.
It’s a powerful chapter on filters
Our brains receive millions of pieces of information from the day we are born. How does the brain process all these different influences?
We can receive two billion pieces of information through our five5 senses every second. ( reference needed) These senses include your sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste, and form our Representational Systems Some of the information received gets filtered out and you don’t process all of it. However, it is important to recognize that some people experience more than others and that we are all different and unique. Taste and smell are not multi-dimensional and don’t affect the language we use but sight (the visual) and hearing (the auditory) do impact our language. Have you ever noticed how some people use visual words when they communicate? This could be through written texts, emails, or spoken in conversations. Our eyes see what is going on around us and we convey the information from our eyes into images that we can process, experience, and retain in our memories. In a similar way, we process what we smell, hear, touch, and taste and we use those senses to help us store information. In this chapter, I am going to tell you all about how our filters function to affect our thinking and behaviour.
I will do this by introducing you to some of the most recognisable filters and how they appear in our communication with others.
I really hope you value the knowledge and is assists you to think about crucial parts of communication in business such as negotiation, building teams, training, brand consistency, selling new products and services and marketing.
Enjoy, Ana Ambika Pindoria
