  • Résumé

  • Maw-lukutinej is a Mi'kmaw phrase that means "let's work together". This podcast emerges at the intersection of university-community research relationships between Grenfell Campus, Memorial University in Corner Brook and Mi'kmaw communities in the Bay St. George Region on the island of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland). ************************************************************************ SERIES ONE is set as a conversational discussion over a cup of tea with presenters Brady Reid, Elder Calvin White, and Kelly Anne Butler. They mix personal stories with lessons learned from a collaborative research project with Flat Bay. Topics discussed include some history of Mi'kmaq in western Newfoundland, the establishment and registration process of the Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation, challenges faced by the community of Flat Bay and the Flat Bay Mi'kmaq Band, and important considerations and responsibilities for researchers working with Indigenous communities. Season one was created and hosted by Brady Reid; engineered and edited by Ivan J. White; produced by Dr. Kelly Vodden. Special thank you to guests Elder Calvin White and Kelly Anne Butler, and to Evan Butler and Pamela Gill for help! Artwork designed by Emily Critch. ************************************************************************ SERIES TWO shares the journey of a series of knowledge-sharing symposia hosted in collaboration between Grenfell Campus' Office of Research and Graduate Studies, the Bay St. George Mi'kmaw Cultural Revival Committee, and the Indigenous Resource Centre at Grenfell Campus. In this season, hosts Kelly Vodden, Arlene White, Kelly Anne Butler and Brady Reid bring us through some of the key themes that emerged throughout the symposia, with several episodes presenting snippets of sessions. Speakers include Elder Calvin White, Stephen Decker, Raymond Thomas, Ivan White Jr., Ivan White Sr., and Hilding Neilsen. Topics include Indigenous knowledge systems and perspectives in the natural sciences, supervising graduate students doing collaborative work, building effective research relationships and more. ************************************************************************ Series 2 podcast producer, Ivan J White. Podcast theme "Für Kelly Anne" written and recorded by Ivan J White. ************************************************************************ *Funding for the overall Maw-lukutinej project came to us through the Memorial University Office of Public Engagement Accelerator Fund. First symposium funded through Scholarship in the Arts at Grenfell Campus.*
