Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development. This week on MHM we are talking about SHERE KHAN from the Disney classic, “The Jungle Book.” Your hosts HB and LB share personal anecdotes and delve into Shere Khan's motivations, character traits, and the fear he instills among the jungle inhabitants. We consider how much of his villainy is attributed to natural instincts versus reputation as well as compare this portrayal to other versions and conclude with a reflection on how to deal with intimidating figures in real life and some fun facts about the movie. Questions, themes, and topics we touch on include: Creating an idea of someone based on eavesdropping and their reputation Social media and its power to sway thought and opinion What to do if there’s a Shere Khan in your life Staying true to yourself to find your people And more! • S3 Ep. 12 MADAME MIM: The Crone of Sword in the Stone
    Nov 19 2024

Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development.

This week on MHM we are talking about MADAME MIM from THE SWORD IN THE STONE

Joining us this week is special guest Jennifer Levine (she/her/they/them). Jennifer is a listener of the MHM podcast and advocated to have Madame Mim on our Disney Villains Season. They’re an Intersex activist and clinical patient recruitment specialist working in CNS disorders, which includes Bipolar Depression, Depression, Schizophrenia, Migraine, and Binge Eating Disorder to name a few. She is a cinephile and avid fandom enthusiast. Her latest TV obsessions include From, Agatha All Along, and Felicity, but she is a diehard Lost, Agents of SHIELD and The West Wing fan. She can be found most places @jennlevine.

    Follow Jen: https://www.instagram.com/jennlevine

In this episode, Jenn shares why Madame Mim is so important to her. Madame Mim lives in isolation, meaning that she was either shunned by society or chose to live that way. She didn’t ask for Wart to drop into her chimney!

Questions, themes, and topics we touch on include:

    • The only 10 mins of screentime we get of the villain

    • Loneliness, isolation, and community needs

    • How the intersex experience relates to Madame Mim’s

    • How Madame Mim fits into the archetypal "wicked witch" persona

    • Acceptance and self-awareness as tools for mental wellness

    • Applying lessons from the movie to real-life situations

Thank you for listening to this episode of the Mental Health Multiverse podcast and for spending time with us!

    Nov 12 2024

Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Multiverse: A podcast where we mindfully break down your pop culture favs and discuss them through the lens of self care, mental health, and personal development.

This week on MHM we are talking about a rarely talked about the villain from “The Great Mouse Detective,” RATIGAN! HB & LB agree that this is one of Disney’s most underrated movies and think it deserves more attention and appreciation…

As always, in addition to discussing our memories and experiences with the film as a whole, we also delve into Ratigan’s motivations, personality traits, background, and manipulative nature, highlighting the dark themes and complex dynamics in the movie. We also relate Ratigan's behavior to real-life experiences with volatile personalities, discussing the mental health implications, and consider whether a redemption arc is possible for such a character.

    • Ratigan’s iconic voice actor

    • The dark threads of Disney

    • This movie’s ties and parallels to Sherlock Holmes

    • Dealing with a volatile, unpredictable caregiver/parent
