    Show Notes for Season 1, Ep. 29:  Number 2:  Countdown of the World’s Most Infamous People – Jack the Ripper - October 28, 2021

    ========================================

     Episode Summary:

     In this week’s episode of “Pumpkins and Politics” with Chad George, Chad will be kicking off this “spooky” month with a countdown of the Top 5 of the World’s Most Infamous People. This week, we will continue with number two, probably the most infamous criminal in the world, whose murders are still unsolved to this day, Jack the Ripper.

     We are continuing our weekly series of the “50 Most Influential people” segment, where Chad chooses one influential person from each state to talk about. This week, our influential person is from the State of New Hampshire. Alan Shepard was born in Derry, New Hampshire.  He was an American astronaut, naval aviator, test pilot, and businessman.  In 1961, he became the second man and the first American to travel into space, and in 1971, he walked on the Moon.

    In this episode, we touch on some key points:

    1.   Jack the Ripper was an unidentified serial killer active in the largely impoverished areas in and around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888.

    2.   In both the criminal case files and the contemporary journalistic accounts, the killer was called the Whitechapel Murderer and Leather Apron.

    3.   Attacks ascribed to Jack the Ripper typically involved female prostitutes who lived and worked in the slums of the East End of London.

    4.   The name “Jack the Ripper” originated in a letter written by an individual claiming to be the murderer that was disseminated in the media.

    5.   The murders were never solved, and the legends, surrounding these crimes became a combination of historical research, folklore, and pseudohistory, capturing the public imagination to the present day.

    6.   Alan Shepard was an American astronaut, naval aviator, test pilot, and businessman.
