  • Challenging Norms: The Push for Health and Physical Education Reform
    Jul 1 2024

In this episode, Greg Wood and Aimee explore the complexities of challenging the status quo and driving change in the education sector.

As an educational leader, Greg has faced significant resistance when attempting to shift traditional perceptions, particularly regarding the value of Health and Physical Education (HPE). Convincing staff and decision-makers of HPE's benefits to learning retention, behavioural improvement and student wellbeing proved difficult. Implementing data-driven insights required strategic programmatic changes, resources and demonstrating successful outcomes to alter these perceptions.

The process was often frustrating, feeling like the proverbial one step forward and two steps back. Despite the compelling data and the narrative shift needed, breaking through the mindset of "well, it worked in my day" proved challenging. This experience tested Greg's resolve, strategic planning skills and his ability to drive the change agenda. Join us as he shares these insights, reflecting on the persistent efforts required to transform educational perspectives and practices.

  • Voicing Concerns and Challenging Senior Leadership
    Jun 15 2024

In this episode, Hannah Cunningham and Aimee explore the challenge school leaders face when questioning and challenging those in higher authority.

Addressing unethical behaviour or inaccuracies has often left Hannah feeling frustrated and powerless, driven by a belief that those in positions of responsibility should uphold a strict code of ethics. The fear of jeopardising job security or straining relationships only adds to the stress, impacting mental wellbeing.

Seeking advice from a trusted, more experienced colleague has been instrumental in helping Hannah find effective strategies. Though confrontation isn't within her comfort zone, she has become adept at presenting irrefutable evidence objectively. Reflecting on these experiences has enabled her to develop strategies for similar situations in the future. She has dubbed this her 'Good Girl Mindset,' and by recognizing when it takes over, she has been able to manage it. Join us as Hannah shares these insights and her experiences navigating the complexities of leadership and ethics.
