  • Episode 40 - Alison Beder Solway - Author of The Miles We Run and Surrogacy Advocate
    Jan 23 2025

Today on Rule 42, we welcome a woman whose journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, transformation, and the unwavering belief that hope is a brave and deliberate decision.

Alison Beder Solway is a debut author whose memoir, The Miles We Run, delves into the deeply personal themes of surrogacy, fertility, and endurance—both physical and emotional. Through her story, she explores what it truly means to push through life’s greatest challenges and emerge stronger on the other side.

Beyond her work as an author, Alison is the founder of ABS Fitness, an online platform dedicated to helping women build strength and resilience at any stage of life. With a profound understanding of the connection between mind and body, she empowers women to redefine their limits—proving that growth doesn’t stop at any age. At 53, she continues to challenge common misconceptions about fitness in midlife, demonstrating firsthand that discipline, mindset, and physical training are deeply intertwined.

Alison’s career path is as dynamic as her personal journey. She holds a Master of Science in Environmental Management and has worked extensively in policy development, university education, and corporate sustainability before transitioning to the world of fitness and writing. Her ability to bridge seemingly disparate fields speaks to her adaptability, curiosity, and relentless drive for impact.

She has also undertaken one of the most grueling endurance challenges—training for the New York City Marathon—an experience that has further shaped her philosophy on perseverance and mental toughness. Her story is one of transformation, from navigating the complexities of surrogacy 25 years ago to pushing her body and mind to new limits today.

Whether through her writing, coaching, or personal journey, Alison inspires others to embrace resilience, push past fear, and trust in their own strength. We are honored to have her here today to share her wisdom, experiences, and insights into what it truly means to live with purpose, passion, and unwavering determination on Rule 42!

  • Episode 39 - Isabella Young - Author and Cult Survivor Who Overcame Unimaginable Tragedy.
    Jan 9 2025

On today’s episode of Rule 42, we’re diving into an extraordinary story of resilience, transformation, and the indomitable human spirit. Our guest, Isabella Young, is a trailblazer in Outdoor Education, a mental health advocate, and a survivor of unimaginable tragedy.

With a background in physical education and health, Isabella was a pioneer in therapeutic Outdoor Education in Australia and the founder of Out Doors Inc. This non-profit organization has empowered people with poor mental health through outdoor adventure and recreation for nearly four decades.

But Isabella’s story transcends her professional accomplishments. In 1994, her world was turned upside down when she was widowed while pregnant and raising her three-year-old son.

In the years that followed, Isabella embarked on a profound journey across three continents, exploring healing practices from retreats and shamanic journeys to vision quests. Her path also led her into - and out of - a messianic cult, where she endured years of psychological control and devastating loss, including the murder of her son at the hands of the cult leader.

Now thriving in Hawaii, Isabella has reclaimed her life, writing, creating art, and sharing her wisdom with the world. Her books, Putting on the Armor of God and New Human of New Earth, provide practical tools for physical and mental wellness, spiritual awakening, and personal sovereignty.

Isabella’s journey is one of unimaginable loss, but also extraordinary resilience and hope. Join us as we explore her path of healing, resistance, and empowerment, and discover how her story can inspire us all to overcome life’s darkest moments and emerge stronger than ever on today’s amazing episode of Rule 42!

  • Episode 38 - Liz Benditt - 6-time Cancer Survivor and Creator of The Balm Box!
    Dec 19 2024

Today’s guest is a powerhouse of resilience, innovation, and heart. Liz Benditt is a 6-time cancer survivor turned entrepreneur who took her personal struggles and transformed them into a mission-driven business. After enduring six different cancers over 15 years, Liz launched TheBalmBox.com - a company delivering functional, thoughtful self-care packages for cancer patients, something she knows firsthand was sorely missing during her own treatments.

But Liz isn’t just a cancer-preneur. With over 25 years of experience as a marketing executive, she’s worked with iconic brands like Disney and Hallmark and is now shaping the next generation of marketers as a professor at the University of Kansas School of Business. She’s also a nonpartisan political advocate, a public speaker featured on NBC, USA Today, and Yahoo News, and somehow still manages life with two teenage kids, a supportive husband, and what she affectionately calls “one terrible dog.”

What’s truly inspiring about Liz is her ability to combine grit and humor. Growing up as the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, she developed an unstoppable resilience, and that strength is woven into every part of her life - from creating The Balm Box to standing in line (twice!) to see the Mona Lisa with her girlfriends in Paris, joking, “Let’s see the HO and then get a cocktail.” Today, we’ll dive deep into Liz’s incredible journey: how she overcame unimaginable challenges, turned pain into purpose, and continues to inspire others. Get ready for a mix of wisdom, wit, and pure inspiration as we welcome Liz Benditt to the Rule 42 podcast.
