    Today's Episode Dr. Raj is joined by Kevin Martin from the band Candlebox! Today’s Guest Kevin Martin is an American singer who is best known as lead vocalist of the rock band Candlebox. He also provided lead vocals for the bands The Gracious Few and The Hiwatts. Martin was born in Elgin, Illinois. His father worked for a salt company and the family moved to San Antonio, Texas when he was 10. They subsequently moved to Mercer Island, Washington near Seattle when Martin was 15. He and drummer Scott Mercado set out to start a band in 1990. Candlebox was formed in 1991 after guitarist Peter Klett and bassist Bardi Martin joined them. They gained a Billboard 200 top 10 hit in 1993 with their self-titled debut album, released by Maverick Records. The album's success was largely due to the single "Far Behind", a song written about two of Martin's friends who suffered heroin overdoses, including Andrew Wood of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. The single reached number 18 on the US Hot 100 and was a top 10 hit in both the US Modern Rock and US Mainstream Rock charts. Today’s Guest With nearly 40 years of senior living experience, Clark is nationally known for redefining the industry—from innovative care models and building design to novel approaches to employee engagement and creating an employee-centric culture. Clark comes from humble beginnings and has remained dedicated to helping others throughout his life. He supports more than 70 local and global charities and has founded five of his own including: The Potato Soup Foundation, The Clark Family Foundation, The March for Civility, D-ONE Foundation, and Queen Bee. Queen Bee, a coffee shop with multiple locations in the Puget Sound, was created as a tribute to Clark’s mother and all the proceeds go to charity. Clark is Chairman of the D-ONE Foundation, a mentorship program for Division 1 athletes. Clark also mentors several NFL players. He led the March for Civility in Washington, DC, where he had the honor of speaking on the steps of the Lincoln Monument. He is also involved in Pope Francis’ private foundation, The Galileo Foundation, aiming to end child slavery. In October 2022, he spoke at the Vatican Faith and Philanthropy Summit alongside other renowned business and world leaders. Today’s Guest Shiv Gaglani is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Osmosis.org, a leading health education platform with an audience of millions of current & future clinicians as well as their patients and family members. Shiv’s primary passion is developing innovative and scalable solutions in the fields of healthcare and education. To this end he curated the Smartphone Physical, which debuted at TEDMED, and the Patient Promise, a movement to improve clinician-patient relationship through partnership in pursuing healthy lifestyle behaviors. Shiv is also an avid writer who has written two educational books, Success with Science and Standing out on the SAT & ACT. He is a regular contributor to Forbes, which named him to their 30 Under 30 List in 2018. After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard College in 2010 with degrees in engineering and health policy, Shiv began his MD degree at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (from which he is currently on leave) and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in 2016. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, snowboarding, skiing, running, and flying.
