  • Destination Addiction Does Not Equal Happy

    Destination addiction, what is it??? How do you know if you have it?

    According to the "googles", the best definition is, "it refers to a psychological phenomenon where individuals continually seek fulfillment and happiness in future destinations or events rather than appreciating the present moment. People experiencing this mindset often believe that their happiness is contingent upon reaching a specific place, achieving a goal, or experiencing an event, leading to a perpetual cycle of dissatisfaction."

    Read that last part again, "leading to a perpetual cycle of dissatisfaction". The thought that things will be better "there" than they are now, is one of the many things that can rob you of your current joy. Holding out for a future destination is essentially putting your joy on HOLD.

    Destination addition is not just about a physical destination. It is about financial, relationship, business, life and health goals. A clue that you may have it is, "I'll be better when.... I'll be happier when..... Things will be amazing when......".

    The truth is, regardless of where you are on the journey, you will also show up "there". Life is 50/50. 50% is great and 50% is not great. It is just how things are and always will be. I'm not saying that the circumstances will be the same yet, if you aren't happy here, you will not be happy there. AND remember, happy is fleeting. You are looking to create RIGHT now and FUTURE joy.

    Here are 8 strategies to addressing and correcting Destination Addition:

    4. **Limit Comparisons**:
    5. **Engage in Enjoyable Activities**:

  • What "NOT" To Do

    We spend a great deal of time focusing on our "to do" list and acknowledging what we "should be doing" yet, chances are, there is an entirely other list of "things you are doing" that really fall onto a "NOT to do" list.

    I love this twist! As humans, we spend a great deal of time falling into our conditioned and habitually behaviors. In fact, over 90% of what we do is just a response to stimulus and conditioning. Our minds are brilliant at trickery and deceit to sell you on the other stuff, the not to do!

    I truly did a deep dive on this very thing a few years ago and my findings were startling! Like so many things I tackle, i did this at a high level. I started a timer to go off every 15 minutes throughout my day. My discovery was eye opening that I was spending a great deal of time doing things that were NOT moving me toward my goal. My biggest culprit was SOCIAL MEDIA! To be fair, part of my lead generation is using social media but, what is NOT part of it is the rabbit hole I'd go down for 30 minute chunks of time!

    Once I knew what was on my "not to do list" I immediately revisiting my to do list and prioritized what was most important. Realizing that the thing that was critical to my goals and dreams was what I was resisting the most. This clarity allowed me to reprioritize, reengage and to OWN what was truly important. It allowed me to create a true time block system to move me forward faster than ever imagined toward my goals and dream.
