Welcome To The Wordsmith's Edge - The Official Podcast Of DHK Creations & Publications, LLC

Today, we interview Natalie Colburn, author of, "A Call For Blood." We tackle a lot in this podcast, everything from writing to the benefits of Kickstarter for authors, to the title and hints of book 2, and more! I had so much fun getting to speak with Natalie, and we hope you enjoy learning more about her and her work!

    A CALL FOR BLOOD:

In a world where everyone has a gift, the King of Myria rules with death and destruction.

Keith and Camille Atwood have seen their fair share of cruelty living in the Gulf, one of the poorest sectors in Myria. Every year, on Combatant Day, they are forced to observe gruesome fights to the death between criminals and the King's loyal champions.

But when their father attempts to assassinate the King, the pair of siblings are thrown into the Crowning Games, a series of spectacles designed to kill off the participants for the crowd's entertainment until there's one winner. Keith and Camille's arrival garner the attention of both fellow competitors and inhabitants of the castle, including Princess Amaia.

Now, they must decide if they want to play along or fight for what they believe in, even if it means their deaths. They must ask themselves the same questions.

What are they willing to do to survive?

Who are they willing to become?

    NATALIE COLBURN:

Natalie is a young, Christian author, and she is certainly leaving her mark in the self-publishing world! She has a passion for writing and reading, crediting Harry Potter and Percy Jackson for her love of all things bookish! She has published two books so far, "Me Through Us," a poetry collection, and "A Call For Blood," book 1 in a thrilling dystopian fantasy series, "The Crowning Games." You can connect with her through her Instagram @nataliecolburnwrites or on her website.

Be sure to check out her Kickstarter page for updates and information on Book 2, as well as some AWESOME exclusives. (Like those sprayed edges featured above!)

Welcome to The Wordsmith's Edge - The Official Podcast Of DHK Creations & Publications, LLC.

What you're witnessing is a testimony of a once broken man, with a broken past, to a restored and healed man after God's own heart.

    Jul 31 2024

Welcome to The Wordsmith's Edge - The Official Podcast of DHK Creations & Publications, LLC.

On this episode, we interview one of our newest published authors - Lisa Dee Dunnam of West Texas. Lisa is one who walked through her own wilderness and darkness for decades that included addiction, abuse and more. What you'll learn from Lisa's book is how God literally saved her, redeemed her and showed her what life with Him could truly be like if we just allow that personal relationship with Him. What you'll hear with today's episode is transparency, vulnerability and how relatable (and real) she is!

We also have special guests with us on this episode! Her two sons, Cody Carnes (a 4 Time Grammy Nominee from Nashville, TN.), William Jon Currie (a Successful Rancher and Real Estate Investor from Austin, TX.) and her husband, Craig Dunnam (the love of her life and a huge part of her testimony) all get candid with what life was like with her as her boys were growing up as well as what they are all up to today!

Lisa Dunnam is not a renowned author. She’s someone who lives a quiet life in a rural region of West Texas. In her only book she will probably ever write, she takes the reader on a walk down memory lane to illustrate several decades of her life where she was trapped in the sins that many women struggle with - abuse, abortion, addiction and adultery. Her low self-esteem and lost sense of identity were rooted in lies she believed about herself that began in her childhood. These lies were from a source much deeper than she realized. She claims, “Satan’s biggest trick is to whisper lies to us when we are young and vulnerable that shape our self-image and derail our destiny.” Lisa gives blatant details of the pits she was pushed in, lured in, and even jumped in herself.
“When I look back on the past 63 years of my life, I see how God never took His eyes off me even in every dark situation I put myself in. There were many bad decisions, causing me to have to lie in the bed I made for myself. But, with each season of these trials, our merciful, loving and patient Father still clung to my side, pursuing me unknowingly, until I finally awoke to a new day of free living in total surrender to Jesus. Those seasons lasted for decades but God is long-suffering, and He never goes back on His promises.
If you are someone who struggles with guilt and shame from decisions you have made in desperation – or you are still in that pit of despair - desperately looking to be loved, let’s be friends. Take this book and read my mail. It is my prayer that my story will help you see that you are already PERFECTLY LOVED! There is hope for tomorrow in Jesus Christ. I’m living proof of what the mercy of God can do!”

  • Episode 4 - Author D.T. Powell
    Jul 4 2023

Here we are, episode 4 of The Wordsmith's Edge!

We enjoyed every minute talking to Christian author, D.T. Powell, who has published several short stories, fanfic pieces, and is working on a few original fiction novels! She is filled with the Spirit and is working hard to glorify God through her stories, and you can definitely hear that in the passion she has for writing!

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

    D. T. Powell grew up in a Christian home, loving books and reading. Her daily habits included devouring dozens of pages, picking which book to read next, scouring the local library shelves, and archiving and listening to sacred music.

When she was nine, God sent a fictional character into her life who changed the way she looked at the world—and herself.

From then on, she wanted to show everyone what God had done for her, so she pursued an art degree… and was summarily kicked out of the program due to general lack of artistic talent.

Only after she graduated with a degree in business did she pick up the one utensil she had never thought to use, a pen. And she hasn’t put it down since.

To fill her writing day, she works on original stories, extensive fanfiction endeavors, editing friends’ work, and learning more about the craft of writing.

Her hobbies include hanging out with her husband and their three kitties, reading, playing pickelball, listening to music, and imagining scenes to use in future books.

She loves Psalm 126:5, “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.”
