We don’t know God, but God knows us.

“For now we see only a reflection, as in a mirror, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known.” - 1 Corinthians 13:12

We are like tea cups in the ocean. The ocean will completely fill and surround the cup, and know everything about it. Yet the cup’s knowledge of the ocean, though real and significant is barely a fraction of the ocean’s scale and scope.

Paul started his spiritual journey with arrogance and pride. He was a student who had studied with the best teachers and excelled. He was a practitioner of his religion who kept all the customs and traditions. He thought he knew.

His arrogance led him to doing unspeakable harm to those who did not understand or practice as he did.

His breakthrough came when he embraced humility, understanding that though he had experienced a lot, there was far more about life and God that he’d never fully understand, that he himself needed to be taught.

Paul came to understand that though he’d never fully know God, God fully knew and loved him. And that was enough.
