The Claxton Lore and Apparition Warehouse is located on a remote private property in the deep swamps of Louisiana, and overseen by a robot designed by Mr. Claxton, called CLAW. The warehouse is filled with a maze of crates labeled with things like The Beast, Mr. Mason’s Jars, Snap, The Atomic Ants, which are filled with the things of legend, and it is CLAW’s job to make sure the objects don’t get out. But CLAW is a curious robot, and what lay inside these crates just may make their way out and haunt the imaginations of listeners everywhere.

Starr Wyman is hedged in on all sides: caring for her war-broken brother, tormented by her crooked father, still in mourning for the disappearance of her mother. Her father, the Bible-quoting “Wint” Wyman, dismisses her herbalist work as witchcraft, but when a body drops and her brother is responsible, Wint calls on Starr to make the corpse disappear. As the town's chief Alderman and drug kingpin, he can do that. Enter the mysterious Jase Patton, hunting an ivory artifact owned by Wint Wyman.

Standing five stories tall in a relatively small city, the Howard Phillips building is like any other building: It is secretly inhabited by an entity from another plane of existence that feeds off the energy of the people who work within its walls. A scientist has been murdered in a bizarre manner, and BB's daughter has been kidnapped. Reluctantly joining forces with his ex-wife, BB plunges into a labyrinthine mystery incorporating the world's oldest and best-known games and taking them to Paris, Dubai, Pyongyang, and Alexandria.
