What doesn't kill you...can still cause a lot of damage. After a deadly accident in Airborne School, Jan Wishart returns to West Point under a cloud of suspicion. She is branded a "witch" by some at the military academy and creepy things keep happening in her room. She's losing the single most precious commodity available to cadets: sleep, which inflames her already heightened anxiety level. Then, a masked intruder begins visiting her room at night. Or is she imagining that? Events escalate to the point of no return for Jan and her two best friends.

They failed to drive her out of the military academy, but one in three women are still leaving West Point. Jan Wishart fights for survival in her second year at the formerly all male citadel, where the women cadets continue to endure body shaming, sexism, and contempt from the higher ups. When one of her friends shows signs of abuse and later commits suicide, Jan's coming of age year gets even more complicated. The culture of hazing and harassment must be addressed...sometimes the best way to call attention to an issue is to leak it the press.

On top of battling the normal teenage angst that everyone goes through, Joanie is also reeling from her parents' bitter divorce and having to cope with her mother's new boyfriend and father's new family. Alone in a new town and without friends, she turns to passing the time by indulging in her longtime hobby of making toy models of soldiers and is both amazed and shocked when one of them comes to life.
