When Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was the Khalifah, he met his governor Nafi at Usfan, a valley near Makkah. Umar asked Nafi who he appointed to lead the people there, and Nafi named Ibn Abza, a former slave. Surprised, Umar questioned the choice. Nafi explained that Ibn Abza was well-versed in the Qur’an and inheritance law. Umar then recalled a saying of the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Each greeting brought more rewards—ten, twenty, and even thirty good deeds! But when someone forgot to greet, the Prophet gently reminded him, saying, "When you come to a gathering, give the greeting. When you leave, give it again. Both greetings are just as important."
