Titus Crown is the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County, Virginia. In recent decades, quiet Charon has had only two murders. Sometimes, a woman owns little more than the deep, hidden wishes of her heart, and those don’t count for much in a place like Mississippi, at least for folk like Victoria. What’s the cost of getting precisely what you want? She quickly becomes trapped in a cutthroat world of wealth, privilege, and power. When Victoria is offered everything she’s ever wanted, will she succumb to temptation, or will she find a way to resist?
