Johnson's plan of Presidential Reconstruction, which was sympathetic to the former Confederacy, would ultimately lead to his impeachment and the institution of Radical Reconstruction.

From 1845 to 1865 the Gulf of Mexico was at the center of American expansion and southern imperialism.
