China Captivating

La historia de Taiwán es asombrosa. Políticamente, Taiwán tenía una cultura de señores de la guerra. Many people in the West look upon the Second Sino-Japanese War, which took place in the 1930s and 1940s, as a sort of sideshow to the larger Second World War, but there is no separating the two. Imagine the Pacific War, the theater of World War II that took place in the Pacific. If the Japanese were not busy fighting on another front, they would have had millions of more troops available to fight the Americans and the British. In all likelihood, World War II would have ended the same way, but it would have taken much longer and cost that many more lives.

Around the year 1162, near the modern capital of Mongolia, a baby boy was born into a fractious and violent world. The birth of this child must have caused quite a stir among the members of the nomadic tribe that he had been born into. Word soon traveled that the son of Yesügei, the Borjigin tribal leader, had been born clutching a blood clot in his tiny hand.

Mao Zedong es reconocido, junto con Chiang Kai-Shek y Sun Yat-Sen, como una de las figuras más influyentes de la historia China moderna. Su control político de la nación declinó durante sus últimos años, pero permaneció como el presidente del Partido Comunista de China desde su fundación en 1949 hasta el día en que murió (9 de septiembre de 1976).
