Lettre dramatique d'une femme emprisonnée, isolée dans sa cellule, et qui parvenait malgré tout à rendre grâce à Dieu. D'investigations en découvertes, l'auteur tombe sur l'histoire extraordinaire de cette femme qui a refusé la défaite de 1940 puis sauvé de la déportation son amie Yvonne Netter, avocate juive et féministe, en organisant son évasion du camp de Pithiviers.

Napoléon était un stratège mais ce fut aussi un écrivain. Son récit de son ascension depuis le collège jusqu'au grade de général d'armée est riche d'enseignement. Est-ce qu'il se fait la part belle dans ce récit, sans doute un peu mais il y a aussi une certaine sincérité quand il parle du rôle de Barras auprès de Joséphine. Il avoue son anxiété.

Depuis les années 50, des enseignants ont recueilli des témoignages en s'adressant aussi bien à des anonymes qu'à des acteurs incontournables. Ces enregistrements, morceaux d'histoires vécues, constituent une mémoire orale dont le caractère humain lui confère un statut de document historique vivant. Les auteurs et l'éditeur de cette publication n'ignorent pas qu'un témoignage ne peut être transformé en objet d'histoire qu'à la condition de le croiser avec d'autres informations et de le passer au crible de la critique.

En août 1942, le président des Etats Unis, Roosevelt, crée le projet Manhattan dont l'objectif est la réalisation d'une arme atomique. Oppenheimer est choisi pour diriger la partie scientifique du projet car il réunit les qualités suivantes : scientifique américain connaissant la physique nucléaire, reconnaissance de la part des scientifiques et aptitude à les diriger. Il réunit dans un lieu secret du Nouveau Mexique, à Los Alamos, les meilleurs scientifiques des Etats-Unis et de plusieurs pays alliés, à l'exception notable d'Albert Einstein.

The year is 1935. 16 octobre 1946. À l'issue du procès de Nuremberg, le dignitaire nazi Julius Streicher monte à l'échafaud. Avant d'être pendu, il lance : "Ce sont les Juifs qui vont être contents ! C'est Pourim 1946 !" Stupeur dans le monde. Qu'a-t-il voulu dire ? Il est établi que Streicher fait référence à une fête juive qui commémore les événements relatés dans un texte biblique vieux de deux mille ans : le "Livre d'Esther".
