An American, secular, diasporic Jew, Lis Harris grew up with the knowledge of the historical wrongs done to Jews. In adulthood, she developed a growing awareness of the wrongs they in turn had done to the Palestinian people. This gave her an intense desire to understand how the Israelis’ history led them to where they are now. However, she found that top-down political accounts and insider assessments made the people most affected seem like chess pieces.

The Psalms express the heart and essence of humanity, covering a wide range of emotions, and the lessons derived from them have had a far-reaching effect through the ages. They are a unique portion of the Old Testament - 150 songs and poems that include hymns of praise, thanksgiving, lament, wisdom, and liturgy. Written over a long period of time by multiple authors, the Psalms illustrate the theology and worship of the Israelites over the centuries.

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven...." The author's name in Hebrew was Koheleth, but the Greek translators of the Old Testament rendered it as Ecclesiastes. Nothing is known about his life, but without his words, our language would be missing some of the most beautiful passages ever written.

In A Stranger in Jerusalem, Trevan Hatch attempts to situate the stories about Jesus within their Jewish context. Jesus was a Jew, his friends were Jews, his first followers were Jews, he studied the Hebrew Scriptures (either orally or from texts), he worshiped in the synagogue, and he occasionally traveled to Jerusalem to observe the Israelite festivals. Hatch illustrates that Jesus does not seem to have rejected Judaism or acted as a radical outsider in relation to his Jewish peers, but rather, he worked within a Jewish framework.

We live in a radically different world than we did just a year and a half ago. The world has experienced unprecedented fear due to COVID-19. Consequently, most countries have undergone lockdowns, social distancing, and mandated masks because of the worldwide pandemic. The concept of community and its importance has radically changed in the minds of many people. This especially applies to religious communities, and the consequences of this are disturbing. This work discusses the importance of religious community from a Jewish perspective, but also emphasizes other religious traditions.

Thousands of Jews forcibly converted to Christianity in Spain and Portugal were subjected to religious persecution for continuing to adhere to their ancestral faith. The Spanish and Portuguese Inquisitions lasted for centuries, and when their attention on Judaizers ended, they switched to other concerns, including Protestantism, bigamy, and blasphemy. The Inquisition typically conjures up images of intolerance, persecution, and violence, and rightly so. Many people think of it as a reflection of the spiritual, scholastic, and scientific darkness of the medieval period.

The Book of Revelation is a Jewish book. The 144 thousand anointed servants from each of the twelve tribes of Israel appear in Revelation 7, 14, and 15. These young men play a major role during the Tribulation. This work explains and examines their anointing, ministry, divine appointment, and place in the heavenly kingdom. Have you ever wondered how a dialogue with a Jewish person on whether or not the Messiah is God would develop? Now there is no need to wonder. In 2006, I was attending several week-long classes at the Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership in Chicago. One of the classes was titled “Who is a Jew?” and was taught by my doctoral advisor, Rabbi Dr. Byron Sherwin, of blessed memory. In biblical times, culture was all about patriarchs. Theology is meant to cause you to think unto God, and then, when the right understanding of God (and the good news) makes its way into your heart, theology is meant to cause you to rise up singing and praising him for who he is and for what he has done, and will do, in your life.
