Kriegstraumata können über mehrere Generationen hinweg übertragen werden. Deshalb ist Deutschland, wie zahlreiche andere Länder der Welt, auch nach Jahrzehnten des Friedens noch immer ein kriegstraumatisiertes Land. An den Traumafolgen früherer Kriege leiden nicht nur Menschen, die Krieg direkt miterlebt haben und deshalb durch eigenes Erleben "direkt kriegstraumatisiert" sind. Vielmehr kann jeder indirekt betroffen sein, der traumatisierte Eltern und traumatisierte Bezugspersonen hat und/oder in einer insgesamt kriegstraumatisierten Gesellschaft lebt.
