About this listen

Half a million dollars will be Celeste Thorne’s reward for spending four years of her life in total isolation. No faces. No voices. No way to leave.

Since Celeste has never really worried about being alone, the generous paycheck she’ll receive for her participation in the solitary psychological experiment seems like easy money.

When she finds an injured hiker in the woods bordering her living compound, her strictly governed world is thrown into disarray. But even as she struggles with the morality of breaking the rules of the experiment, Celeste can’t deny her growing attraction to the kind and enigmatic Olivia Soldano. Still, how much can you really trust a stranger? And how much can you trust yourself when you know all the faces you’ve seen and voices you’ve heard for the past three years have only been your imagination?

But what’s real? Celeste’s reality may lie somewhere between the absolute truth and a carefully constructed deception.

Hahooked from the first chapter!

This book is so many things. Well written, thought provoking, disturbing at times, heart wrenching at other times and surprisingly funny little tidbits sprinkled in. Like when Celeste was playing board games with herself and criticizing the motives of the other players …herself!
One thing this book was not is “cringey”. Whoever wrote that review must have been having a bad day because although opinions on the story can be subjective, there is no plausible explanation for claiming Abby Crqden’s narration was so bad it made the story worse. It was a stellar performance by an amazing narrator and that is just not debatable.
10 out of 10, highly recommend! I’ve listened to it 4 times in the last year and a half.

Beautifully written

I have reread this book. It astounded me that E J Noyes has the imagination to come up with this concept. Living all alone for three years. The performance by Abby Craden was perfect.

Unconventionaly delightful

I wasn't sure what I expected from this book. The experiment aspect was intriguing and I came to really like the way the story unfolded.
The narrator enhanced my enjoyment of the story.

Superb

This was the first E.J. Noyes novel I've read, and I am absolutely hooked. The writing is beautiful and natural, and this tale is captivating. Abby Craden lends her usual high calibre to the storytelling, and I'm so glad I went with the audio version. She added even more depth to an already immersive novel.

This book touched me deeply

I chose this book because the of someone living in deliberate isolation for a period of years intrigued me. I identified with Celeste and became very fond of her. When she became involved with another woman in the story I was right there with her, feeling what she felt and so happy for her. Then, when what I expected turned out to be true, I felt her anguish and her pain. This book is beautifully written and performed. I want to devour everything I can find written by E.J. Noyes and I want to hear every performance of Abby Craden.

Phenomenal story!

This was suuuuuch a good tale. I found myself really relating to Celeste's struggles with loneliness, and the pain of not feeling connected with others. And her relationship with Olivia was to die for! The narrator, Abby Craden, did a beautiful job bringing the characters to life. Amazing all around!

Great listen!

This book has a great storyline. I have never listened to female/female romance before and I think it's very tastefully done. The story isn't all about the sex, just nicely placed throughout. I seriously could not stop listening to this book! The writer has you wrapped the entire time. Very nice listen.

Exceptional storytelling!

I'm blown away by how talented both Abby Craden and E. J. Noyes are! Abby has a way of pulling words off paper with flourish and unfolding a scene you can see and feel using just her voice. She had me feeling all kinds of ways!
The story itself is one of the best I've ever come across. The plot was refreshing and raw in moments and had me reaching for a tissue more than once. I felt the backstory of Celeste's mom and sister played an integral role in her character and gave us believable reasons of why she'd choose to do the experiment in the first place. Excellent book, and one I'll recommend for years to come!

Had potential but boring

I really had high hopes for this, but it bored me to tears. I kept hoping for some interesting twists... Nada. I imagine those that want to hear softcore lesbian porn, you might enjoy it.
