Publisher's Summary

ASSISTANT WANTED: Notorious, high-ranking villain seeks loyal, levelheaded assistant for unspecified office duties, supporting staff for random mayhem, terror, and other Dark Things In General. Discretion a must. Excellent benefits.

With ailing family to support, Evie Sage's employment status isn't just important, it's vital. So when a mishap with Rennedawn's most infamous Villain results in a job offer—naturally, she says yes. No job is perfect, of course, but even less so when you develop a teeny crush on your terrifying, temperamental, and undeniably hot boss. Don't find evil so attractive, Evie.

But just when she's getting used to severed heads suspended from the ceiling and the odd squish of an errant eyeball beneath her heel, Evie suspects this dungeon has a huge rat . . . and not just the literal kind. Because something rotten is growing in the kingdom of Rennedawn, and someone wants to take the Villain—and his entire nefarious empire—out.

Now Evie must not only resist drooling over her boss but also figure out exactly who is sabotaging his work . . . and ensure he makes them pay.

After all, a good job is hard to find.

Contains mature themes.

1.2 speed

the story was great, I could really relate to the fmc. The need to feel useful and praised even when you are clumsy, because you always try your best. Yes, love that! And the banter is top notch!
The narration though was at first unbearable and then I put it at 1.2 speed and it made a world or difference. 1.2 or 1.5 is definitely the sweet spot for this book. at those speed I was even able to enjoy how well the narrator kept the different voices for the characters and the nuances she gave each of them!

The writing was so smart and FUNNY!

It was a very cute and very well written story! The only thing bad I have to say is: I want more Romance (meaning Smutt) but that is the ONLY Thing! This was a great Vanilla story in the fantasy world! The world building, characters and development was AWESOME! Defs recommend to everyone! I laughed OUT LOUD constantly! So cute and I can’t talk about it enough! Can’t wait for more!

love the story, the reader grew on me

sad I read it so early cuz it means I'm gonna have the wait longer for a sequel. wasn't a fan of the narrator of first, as she didn't fit the vibe of the tiktok series (not quite sunshine enough), but she grew on me as time went on.

Good read overall

This book was good overall and I really enjoyed it. I found the plot slowed down a bit in the middle at times, but that it regained momentum by the end.
The characters were engaging and I thought the “office” perspective on villainy was novel and hilarious.
I will be watching for the sequel to come out!

Fun story, not-so-great narration

While I enjoyed the story, the narration was weirdly paced. It was a little frustrating to listen to.

Who Produces this Garbage?

Seriously? I want to know? Who, as a professional in the field of audiobooks, would allow such poor narration to be produced and released?
