About this listen

Now in his 85th year, Hollywood legend Michael Caine shares wisdom and stories from his remarkable career in this "engrossing" memoir that "shines with positive energy" (Library Journal, starred review).

One of our best-loved actors, Michael Caine has starred in over 100 films in his six-decade career, spanning classic movies like Alfie, Zulu, and The Italian Job (the inspiration for the book title) to playing Alfred opposite Christian Bale's Batman in Christopher Nolan's blockbuster Dark Knight trilogy. Caine has excelled in every kind of role - with a skill that's made it look easy.

Caine knows what success takes. He's made it to the pinnacle of his profession from humble origins. But as he says, "Small parts can lead to big things. And if you keep doing things right, the stars will align when you least expect it."

Still working and more beloved than ever, Caine now shares everything he's learned - and "his fans will be rewarded, as will anyone seeking an enjoyable, inspirational read" (Library Journal).

Great read with great advice!

A good read especially if you like stories about Hollywood back in the day. I really enjoyed all the interesting stories told by Michael Caine himself - the life advice included was a bonus! He’s great!

Great life lessons here.

This was such an enjoyable book, and if you happen to love Michael Caine's voice, that, is even better. I laughed and teared up all while enjoying Michael's take on life and how to find your way no matter your profession. Well worth the listen!

No time for elaborate review

Something so personal as memoir or biography of any type can not really be graded on a traditional scoring system. It is either going to be good or it's going to be crap...I don't know what will constitute as crap until I hear it for the first time. This is an excellent Listen for me because the voice of Michael Caine could read almost anything and make it listenable, I think books like this will always give persons a pleasurable listen as long as they enjoy the reader, the art or subject matter spoke of or like I mentioned as a personal preference (and kinda a roll back to number 1 on the list), it can be found pleasurable or interesting if the reader has a good voice. Interesting man, good insights and clearly s help of a life..I give 5 of 5 and 4 of 5 and 5 of 5...4 out of 5 for performance was because I could hear the pages being turned over as her was reading a handful of times, come on Michael I'm ashamed to share my middle name with your first. ok I'm joking and even as a joke that's a little harsh but I stand by the four out of five that's pretty funny.

Excellent writing, reading and life story

What an amazing book. He has a great life philosophy I would love to concur. I am British and enjoyed listening to an accent I nearly forgot was once how I spoke.

Wonderful

Caine is a man whom I’ve never known much about but always had an instinctive fondness of. Blowing the Bloody Doors Off reinforces that fondness as Caine, very much in a stream-of-consciousness format, discusses a bit of everything from the traumas suffered as a child living in wartime, the mistakes and failures that all helped him grow and eventually led to his many personal and professional successes, to reflecting on his own disadvantages and a succinct recognition of the greater disadvantages faced by women and minorities. Caine takes a non-chronological approach, often jumping several times in a chapter to another time in his life, but it all connects and at times made me feel as though I were on a roadtrip with my grandfather. I will definitely be adding a hardcopy to my bookshelf as well.
