One of People’s Best Books to Read in February

A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha Werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Love, Theoretically and The Love Hypothesis.

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast—again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange—again...

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It’s clear from the way he tracks Misery’s every movement that he doesn’t trust her. If only he knew how right he was….

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she's ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory…alone with the wolf.

Intelligence and Confidence

What I particularly loved about Misery is her intelligence and great character development. I really enjoyed the emphasis of importance that was given not only to her romantic relationship with Lowe but also to her friendship with her sister being her guiding light. This might be an odd comment but as a teacher I particularly loved the strong vocabulary used by Misery to showcase he’d I intelligence. Not since “ A Discover of Witches,” have I seen a confident and intelligent female lead that isn’t arrogant. Lastly…the
knot was hot!

Different but in a good way

My first vampire fantasy type novel and was hooked from the beginning. Annoying towards the end. But good finish

4⭐⭐⭐⭐.5🎧

I LOVED IT!

I didn't really know what to expect, but I am so glad I gave it a shot; I really liked how the Vampyres, Werewolves, and humans know of each other.

I thought it was a unique spin on this type of paranormal world. I definitely predicted a few things but that didn't really bother me too much because the characters really are lovely. And I was rooting for Misery right from the beginning.

I didn't predict the ending like at all, that threw me for a little bit of a loop but I do love how it turned out. I can see we might be getting more books in this world, and I am here for it!

LOVED the narration, Therese is completely a favourite, she really does give a unique voice to all the characters, and I love it. Will Damron wasn't really featured, but for small snippets, and that's fine.

Romeo and Juliet meets Beauty and the Beast

After being forced into a political marriage of convenience, our two main characters need to learn to trust each other even though her biology says she shouldn’t and his says something very different. It was a cool take on the vampire/werewolf genre with some new rules and political alliances. It was a pretty cozy romance even with the assassination attempts, the kidnapping, the mortal enemies, and the political subterfuge.

Wow! Such a read!

Ali Hazelwood never ceases to amaze me. Fantasy, science and mystery. She put my favourite things in one book. She has done it again. It reminds me a bit about Mercy Thompson series but with more. There were a many surprises, some I guessed pretty accurately and some I was like how did I not see that. Either ways it was all good and enticing and kept me hooked. I loved then intimate scenes and how they grew into each other: I love things like this! Trust and friendship and really hot scenes ❤️
