Publisher's Summary

From best-selling Kindle Singles author Mishka Shubaly comes Cold Turkey, a step by step roadmap for approaching the harrowing first month of sobriety. Himself 10 years sober, Shubaly addresses the slippery nature of alcoholism, and the messy, anxiety-ridden process of making the decision to stop drinking once and for all.

For Shubaly, there is no one-size-fits-all plan. He refutes the notion that the one and only solution for those struggling are 12-step programs and provides a guide for those who want a different approach to getting sober. This is a how-to for those who are serious about taking their lives back, but are ready to define their sobriety on their own terms.

In the process, Shubaly exposes - in brutal, up-close, and yes, even absurd and funny detail - what drove him to drink, how he put the bottle down, and the surprising life that awaited him when he did. Cold Turkey real, practical, and intimate advice for those struggling, straight from someone who has really been there. Sure, he understands that for the first three days, you might need to eat all the pizza and all the greasy Chinese food. But he also understands the urgent need to improve your life and habits little by little, day by day. Shubaly, no doubt, becomes the listener’s cheerleader. He wants anyone struggling to succeed.

Ultimately, the takeaway is very simple; if Shubaly did it, you can too. And more than that, he’ll be right there with you every step of the way.

Don't Be Fooled By His Haters

This guy KNOWS what's up with the cult known as AA and Narcotics Anonymous. They're success rate is as high as it is with people who DIDN'T go to rehab or AA, yet they tell you that you are POWERLESS without them. That's quite telling. Actually, the OPPOSITE is true. You're powerless IN A CULT that has you brainwashed. Those who remain sucked into their evil cult will defend it as it allows them to remain WEAK VICTIMS. That way, their horrible choices that THEY have made in life is no longer their responsibility. What a load of bull. Pathetic. Take this guys advice, it may save your life. It saved mine! AA didn't! You HAVE THE POWER.

We're all different

I've gone for 5 & 10 years of no drinking at different times. I valued my health. There's a lot of addiction in my family. My body can't tolerate consistent alcohol use. But, I did enjoy it at times in my life. I also have a lot of trauma from sexual abuse in my life, which was a contributing factor in escaping from pain. During the pandemic, I was in a difficult situation and started drinking. I have an underlying condition caused by a medical injury from being incorrectly prescribed a vasoconstrictor, and that makes my blood vessels in my brain have life-threatening vasospasms. I had thunderclap headaches. I have a high pain tolerance, so I didn't know to seek help. I continued to lift weights and dance through the pain. I had an injury to my brain and just kept going until I had more (in the ER, they saw injury from previous thunderclap headaches). Once I finally got an accurate diagnosis, I did research and found out that alcohol, caffeine, and thc were causing vasocontriction. Vasocontriction is what triggers the vasospasms, and I also was having seizures and passing out. I could have died or gotten brain damage. Everything we read says that weed doesn't cause death or physical harm. But that's not true for everyone, so be aware of your medical issues before turning to weed in place of alcohol because for some people it's equally as dangerous to health & life, and in some cases even worse. It was hard to quit alcohol, thc, caffeine, and even cbd all at once, but it's essential for my life. I already quit, but I listened to this book on audible. I think it can be helpful to many people because it's honest and down to earth. I also appreciate his take on AA. I have a friend that will appreciate that as well.
