Story
They were the Savages. Raiders from our distant past. Elites who left Earth to create tailor-made utopias aboard the massive lighthuggers that crawled through the darkness between the stars. But the people they left behind on a dying planet didn't perish in the dystopian nightmare the Savages had themselves created: they thrived, discovering faster-than-light technology and using it to colonize the galaxy ahead of the Savages, forming fantastic new civilizations that surpassed the wildest dreams of Old Earth.

Story
The Troubles. A quaint name for a horrific period in the galaxy's history. A period whose atrocities were superseded only by the terror of the Savage Wars that had come before. Almost no corner of the galaxy was spared a taste of terrible war, cutthroat intrigue… and remorseless death. In the aftermath, this battered galaxy now longs for peace and stability. The Republic, now reformed, seeks to govern by the rule of law. But no matter how sincere the reform, how earnest and well-meaning the ruler, some worlds refuse to place their destiny in the hands of others. Ever again.

Publisher's Summary
Legion Dark Ops has always been a unit shrouded in secrecy. Tasked with performing covert missions, its kill teams are filled with the best warriors from within the ranks of the Legion.
Kel Turner is one of the youngest legionnaires ever to be selected to its ranks. After many battles and trials, he is faced with the greatest challenge of his life - operating by himself on a remote planet at the galaxy's edge, a foot soldier for the policies of the duplicitous House of Reason, tasked with solving a crisis that would take ten kill teams to resolve.
Diplomats, spies, shadowy terrorist groups, and an enigmatic general work with and against Kel as he fights to save a society from itself. What can one operator do alone, separated from his kill team, fighting a war that has no name?
This lone operator doesn't know what it will take to win. He only knows he's not going to lose.

This is an awesome Story
If you liked the Glaxys edge books youll love this its cut from the same cloth. You get invested in the characters the story is good its not dry you want to know whats going to happen next and Everyone they introduce is a real person you could meet not a total work of fiction. I espically loved his internal monologue about the things he encounters because while He is a Dark Ops legionnaire hes also human. Well Done I already bought the next few books to listen to.

Dark Operator is the best
I've listened to all the GE books and have to say that Dark Operator books are the best written, and best performed. The Kel Turner stories are very intelligently written and performed. don't rush through them

Best series opener to date
I really loved Dark Operator. The character building for Kel was amazing. I really feel for this guy and the way he is written in to the plot the relationships with other makes you truly feel for him.
I’m really looking forward to the future books.
Way to Doc, Jason, Nick and especially Stephen for his super smooth calm voice acting.
Thanks for the great listen.

Another amazing accomplishment from the nick Cole, Jason anspach and doc spears.
Can get enough of their galaxy's edge series.
Spy mystery? Action horror? Doesn't matter, they've got a gripping story to tell you.

Did not like the narrater
Couldn’t get into the story because of Dexter.
My mind crept wandering. I found it hard to focus on the story. I’ll stick to books narrated by Bray and Porter.

Disney's version of Sicario
I'm conflicted: I love the GE universe and most books, but this one felt like click-bait
It is rare for me to take the time to leave a negative comment. It actually takes more effort, because I try to be constructive. I think I will fail on this one.
The premise seems fair: young idealistic operator on solo mission, discovers that his preconceptions may not be accurate.
The book sets up:
his team that he has bonded with and is forced to leave behind
his solo travel where he meets nice folks (that he helps and leaves behind)
a world where the all powerful secret police appear to be honest (or are they? dunDunDUN! )
And then nothing really happens but a series of training stories that highlight that perhaps a secret police may have some bad apples, but the rest are a bunch of Disney Princesses.
I don't get it, even now with the announcement of "part 2". Is this meant to be the antithesis of all the hard boiled "can't trust anyone but you and your team" stories ? Maybe. But if so, this needs more writing.
You want a good guys story with real challenges, not some off screen "what is really going on?", then read "The Best of Us"

Narrator sounds like he is reading a bedtime story
He has a sleepy slow voice just seems odd hearing the slow sleepy voice talking about explosions and military type things.

The narrator made this really tough to enjoy.
I like GE books and stories, and while I don't expect every narrator to perform like RC Bray, this guy made me shut off the audio and go look for a print version.
