About this listen

My first love ended in tragedy.

My second began with his brother.

From Wall Street Journal best seller Parker S. Huntington comes a broken love story laced with angst and forbidden romance.

I wasn’t supposed to be on that roof on Valentine’s Day.

Neither was Kellan Marchetti, the school’s designated freak.

We met on the verge of ending our lives.

Somehow, the tattered strings of our tragedies tangled and tightened into an unlikely bond.

We decided not to take the plunge and agreed to check on each other every Valentine’s Day until school ended.

Same time.

One roof.

Two restless souls.

We kept our promise for three years.

On the fourth, Kellan made a decision, and I was left to deal with the consequences.

Just when I thought our story ended, another one began.

They say all love stories look the same and taste different.

Mine was venomous, disgraceful, and written in scarlet scars.

My name is Charlotte Richards, but you can call me Venom.

Moving

First, these narrators bring this book to life. That being said this story is very moving. It touches on the aftermath of feelings after a loss of a loved one. The emotions of love make this book a must to read. Awesome storytelling!

AN UNEQUIVOCAL EXQUISITE MASTERPIECE!

This rivoting love story ends up occupying a large chunk of real estate in my psyche. It's the kind of story that 'stains the brain', so to speak. A word of caution -- do not start listening to this audiobook unless you are prepared to have your heart gutted, but in the most exquisite way. I am not ashamed to admit that I ugly cried while listening to this poignant, hauntingly beautiful, intricate and soul-wrenching story of regrets, guilt, forgiveness and love.

IMO the incomparable Sebastian York, who is my favourite narrator of all time, is absolutely phenomenal in breathing life into the hero/antihero - embodying Tate Marchetti superlatively. The pain and the complexities of emotions he expresses through his flawless narration kept me enthralled - and yearning for more. TBH - SY's deep soulful voice is sublime, and 'feels' like warm honey. He was perfectly casted as Tate, but he was also amazing as the washed-up, 'has-been' Terry Marchetti (Chapter 23 is brilliant).

The author is brilliant. I wish I had a more impactful word to describe her masterpiece but it is -- just that, a masterpiece. I would love to see this story made into a movie.

Eva Erickson is one of my top three favourite female narrators and she was absolutely amazing as Charlotte (Charlie) Richards. Her narration was flawless, captivating and drew me in from start to finish. Jacob Morgan was his usual talented self - delivering a seamless sardonic, self-deprecating, and heartbreaking performance that helped in driving the story home.

Finally, I hope that this novel/audiobook and/or the narrators win some kind of an award as the accolade will be well-deserved. IMO - is it worth a credit? Abso-frickin-lutely. Trust me - the 15 hours will fly by as you embark on a mind-blowing, evocative literary journey that will be imprinted in your psyche even after you finish listening.

So many tears

I don’t believe I’ve ever cried so deeply or often while listening to a book.
Amazing narration by all 3 narrators who truly brought the laughter, frustration and heartache alive especially Jacob Morgan who’s character was the cause of most of the tears.
Thought provoking, frustratingly painful at times with a slow and sometimes reverse burn romance which was tastefully more in the background than the foreground.
One of my new faves- the only thing I don’t like is the cover, that doesn’t suit or reflect the book in anyway and really throws me off when I see it.
