About this listen

From the best-selling author of The Marriage Lie comes a riveting new novel of suspense about a woman who must decide just how far she’ll go to escape the person she once loved

Beth Murphy is on the run....

For nearly a year, Beth has been planning for her escape. She's thought through everything - a new look, new name and new city - because one small slip and her husband will find her.

Sabine Hardison is missing....

A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home from a work trip to find his wife, Sabine, is missing. Wherever she is, she’s taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have, and all signs point to foul play.

As the police search for leads, the case becomes more and more convoluted. Sabine’s carefully laid plans for her future indicate trouble at home, and a husband who would be better off with her gone. But are things really as clear cut as they seem? Where is Sabine? And who is Beth? The only thing that’s certain is that someone is lying and the truth won’t stay buried for long.

Fast paced and fun read...

I enjoyed this audiobook, couldn’t stop playing it. Liked the different first person narrative point of views. The writing is to the point and not repetitive, and not very technical making it easy to follow the story line.

Great story & execution

Wow, great story! Fast-paced with great characters who were pretty realistic. For approx 5 hrs I couldn't predict the twist coming near the end.

Deducting 1 star for the narrator who portrayed Jeffrey. The other 2 narrators were fantastic and seemed to understand their audience's needs. I listen to audiobooks while driving, vacuuming, puttering in the kitchen and showering. From I understand, most people do. So a constant-volume, even-toned voice works best for this. The "Jeffrey" narrator's overacting made it impossible to hear his dialogue properly. Extreme highs and lows, yelling and mumbling..... it seems he thinks we listen to audiobooks in a perfectly quiet room, while doing nothing else. He portrayed Jeffrey's character well, but my constant rewinding to hear what he was saying took me out of the story. Otherwise, the audiobook would have been 5 stars.

Meh.

Very slow and a fairly predictable ending. I would not recommend this book if you have to pay full price.

A bit too Gone Girl

It was overall a good book and had a decent twist. Not the best but a good listen.

Great story!

Great story, but I didn't like the narrators, especially the female one, really strange intonation.

Read it, don't listen to it

Terrible voices to read a book. it's like listening to Siri try to read you a whole story and the plot gets lost because they voices are so distracting.

I really wanted to like it but I can't even finish it. really slow story that has good potential but it's not going anywhere and I can't be bothered to listen anymore, unfortunately.

I figured out the twist early on

I didn't like the narrators, especially when the female narrator did the Spanish accent. it was laughable and a bit offensive. anyway, I figured out the plot twist very early, a only listened to the rest of the book so I wouldn't waste my credit. Pass on this one.
