Publisher's Summary

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson comes the final book in an epic series about a girl who will travel beyond the stars to save the world she loves from destruction.

Spensa made it out of the Nowhere, but what she saw in the space between the stars has changed her forever. She came face to face with the Delvers, and finally got answers to the questions she’s had about her own strange Cytonic gifts.

The Superiority didn’t stop fighting for galactic dominance while she was gone, though. Spensa’s team, Skyward Flight, was able to hold Winzik off, and even collect allies to help with the cause, but it’s only a matter of time until humanity—and the rest of the galaxy—falls.

Defeating them will require all the knowledge Spensa gathered while in the Nowhere. But being Cytonic is more complicated than she ever could have imagined. Now, Spensa must ask herself: how far is she willing to go for victory, if it means losing herself—and her friends—in the process?

The final book in the Skyward series will free humanity, or see it fall forever.

DNF 40%

So much weeping and indecision, I couldn't take it anymore. I finally gave up and decided there were better books to read.

A beautiful ending to a series

I love this series and especially the narration by Suzy Jackson, Spensa not the series would have popped nearly as much had it not been for Suzy Jackson.

Solid finish to the Sanderson’s first YA series

First things first, Suzy Jackson is an incredible narrator. Great distinction between characters ranging from subtle to obvious and just has a really lovely voice.

Without providing spoilers the book itself provides a satisfying conclusion to the arc put together. Spensa’s journey and growth is enjoyable, and many notable side characters contribute to the plot of this one. You will likely not be disappointed.

Satisfying Conclusion

It's good, a satisfying conclusion

But I do feel this series has more holes/inconsistencies than others in Sanderson's work

Worst Sanderson book by far.

A conflict made dire by Spensa’s ineptitude rather than by Brade’s evil genius. Brade, in turn, is a sub-par villain with childish motivations, whom as a teenager mysteriously rose to power behind the scenes enlisting high ranking members of an intergalactic civilization that sees humans as dogs with rabies. Imagine deciding a teenaged dog with rabies should be made dictator of Earth. Doesn’t track, does it? So, for a cheap Shyamalan-esque “cool teist bro!” moment, Sanderson aborted the rightful villain. Then, when all seems lost, (again, thanks to Spensa’s nigh uncanny incompetence and naïveté), Jordan decides to randomly attack at the exact right time, blind grandma sacrifices herself to buy an opening, and everything is solved by, of all things, the power of love and friendship in a finale so cringe worthy I had to look at the cover to make sure I wasn’t reading some weird space Twilight spin-off. For once, the Sanderlanche was so underwhelming, it couldn’t come close to making up for all the book’s past shortcomings. The conflict fas forced, the solution unearned, and even Spenda’s growth as a character had to be spoon fed to her by MUSHROOMBOT and the thinking worms. Even by YA standards this was sub-par. I guess there’s a first time for everything, and Sanderson was bound to eventually write a truly awful turd of a book. Hopefully it’s a one-off, and he got all his bad ideas out of the way before the next installment of the Stormlight Archive.
