About this listen
Sure to become a classic on female empowerment, a groundbreaking exploration of the personal, cultural, and global implications of intergenerational trauma created by patriarchy, how it is passed down from mothers to daughters, and how we can break this destructive cycle.
Why do women keep themselves small and quiet? Why do they hold back professionally and personally? What fuels the uncertainty and lack of confidence so many women often feel? In this paradigm-shifting book, leading feminist thinker Bethany Webster identifies the source of women’s trauma. She calls it the Mother Wound - the systemic disenfranchisement of women by the patriarchy - and reveals how this cycle is perpetuated by wounded mothers who unconsciously pass on damaging beliefs and behaviors to their daughters.
In her workshops, online courses, and talks, Webster has helped countless women re-examine their lives and their relationships with their mothers, giving them the vocabulary to voice their pain, and encouraging them to share their experiences. In this manifesto and self-help guide, she offers practical tools for identifying the manifestations of the Mother Wound in our daily life and strategies we can use to heal ourselves and prevent our daughters from enduring the same pain. In addition, she offers step-by-step advice on how to reconnect with our inner child, grieve the mother we didn’t have, stop people-pleasing, and, ultimately, transform our heartache and anger into healing and self-love.
Revealing how women are affected by the Mother Wound, even if they don't personally identify as survivors, Discovering the Inner Mother revolutionizes how we view mother-daughter relationships and gives us the inspiration and guidance we need to improve our lives and ultimately create a more equitable society for all.

Story
Anxiety affects more than forty million Americans—a number that continues to climb in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. While conventional medicine tends to view anxiety as a “neck-up” problem—that is, one of brain chemistry and psychology—the truth is that the origins of anxiety are rooted in the body. In The Anatomy of Anxiety, holistic psychiatrist Dr. Ellen Vora offers nothing less than a paradigm shift in our understanding of anxiety and mental health, suggesting that anxiety is not simply a brain disorder but a whole-body condition.

Excellent!
While a lot of her personal story did not resonate with me, she took the time to address many different situations and experiences of others. Do not be put off if the first couple chapters don't seem like "you". I found this all extremely helpful and I look forward to applying all that I've learned!

Scary accurate!
There were times while listening to this book where I thought Bethany maybe had CCTV cameras in my childhood home! In all seriousness, this book was very helpful for me to understand that I had done nothing wrong and my mother was actually quite normal for the times. I'm glad that there are so many of my generation and younger who are walking a different path with their children.

Please see farther then the words 💜
I was really looking forward to that book, I had seen some quotes from it and pre-ordered it 💜 I was not disappointed and really enjoyed all the teaching 💜 But I feel that this books comes from the perspective of someone who has had a lot of life struggle from her relationship to her mother 💜 And that this book has a lot to teach about way more then that 💜 So if you read/listen to it I highly suggest to open your mind when she says mother ( can be parent - father - authority figure - lover ) and when she says daughter ( can be son ) 💜 with an open mind this book is rich of insight to live a more authentic life

Painful narration
The content is so so interesting, but the narration is so painfully robotic. I can barely get through this audiobook.
When picking an audiobook, please double check to see if the book is narrated by the author!! Glennon Doyle’s “Untamed” gave me goosebumps listening to it. Such a shame this book had the same potential but because of the narration, it couldn’t deliver :(

Only one perspective
it would have been great to have others contribute to how they are healing or experiencing this. I feel like I know too much about just one experience.
