About this listen
Danny Tozer has a problem: She just inherited the powers of Dreadnought, the world's greatest superhero. Until Dreadnought fell out of the sky and died right in front of her, Danny was trying to keep people from finding out she's transgender. But before he expired, Dreadnought passed his mantle to her, and those secondhand superpowers transformed Danny's body into what she's always thought it should be. Now there's no hiding that she's a girl.
It should be the happiest time of her life, but Danny's first weeks finally living in a body that fits her are more difficult and complicated than she could have imagined. Between her father's dangerous obsession with "curing" her girlhood, her best friend suddenly acting like he's entitled to date her, and her fellow superheroes arguing over her place in their ranks, Danny feels like she's in over her head.
She doesn't have time to adjust. Dreadnought's murderer - a cyborg named Utopia - still haunts the streets of New Port City, threatening destruction. If Danny can't sort through the confusion of coming out, master her powers, and stop Utopia in time, humanity faces extinction.

I felt that deeply.
Many of the feelings and struggles whether explicit or metaphors made me pause and cry.

great story hit home
I'm a trans woman who is also a lesbian. the story itself was amazing but it also made me mad it made me sad and it hurt. how much of what was said to her that I've heard in my life it hurts to hear. the fact I connected so much with this and relived the pain shows how you actually listened to the community.

over all a great superhero story
I love this book, the mc is great she is relatable and empathetic , as a dad my self she broke my heart with her struggles, I do wish the best friend was not written in that way it would have been cool that someone from her pass was well a real friend .... and not well a sack of you know what , still over all I am half way in and it epic hope to see the 3rd book up soon.

I will never recover
Emotionally ruined. Sobbed. Had a panic attack. Can't eat or sleep. Blacked out for an hour. My chest hurts. My eyes hurt.
10/10 book. Would recommend to a friend.

THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!!!
I love this book so much you have no idea. As a non-binary person myself I relate so much with the protagonist and wish desperately there were more books like this. Can't wait to finish the sequel =D

Engaging, glorious, heartbreaking
As a cisgender woman who is blessed with many trans people in my life, this story gave me a deeper understanding of the trans experience. Set against the backdrop of a superheroes journey, this double whammy of a coming of age story delighted me, destroyed me, and left me hungry for more.

A girl going through hell, coming out stronger.
A beautiful, if brutal, story of a girl becoming her true self in every sense of the words.
The story rings with authenticity precisely because of this brutality, the ugliness and prejudice she faces during her struggles reflects the truth of the reality Trans people face everyday, especially Trans youth. The fact that she's suddenly a superhero does nothing to protect her from the pain, confusion and fear that surrounds her acknowledgment of her true self.
I look forward to the next book in the series. She's not done yet, and I want to be with her every step of her journey.

Unique and important female lead
This was such an important voice and perspective: female, trans, lesbian superhero. The story is really engaging and I read somewhere that this was Own Voice for the author, which I think adds another important layer. Enjoyed the narrator as well!

Annoying
There are only so many times my kids and I could put up with the whining about wanting to be, or finally being, a girl. We get it, and it’s cool the topic is explored, but we gave up halfway through when the story wasn’t evolving to anything else.
