About this listen

Jorg would be emperor. It is a position not to be gained by the sword but rather by vote. And never in living memory has anyone secured a majority of the vote, leaving the Broken Empire long without a leader. Jorg has plans to change that - one way or the other. He’s uncovered even more of the lost technology of the land, and he won’t hesitate to use it. But he soon finds an adversary standing in his way, a necromancer unlike any he has ever faced - a figure hated and feared even more than himself: the Dead King. The boy who would rule all may have finally met his match....

first book doesn't suck you in at all but it goes off with a bang... and slowly gets better.

the in mind perspective dry but you will appreciate it by the end of the trilogy.

Story complete

Of the three books in the series I enjoyed this one the least. It felt watered down and drifted around looking for a way to finish the story.

Excellent finale

Stays true to the characters, their intent and has an action-packed and odd-as-ever run to the finish line. Excellent narration through the whole series too.

A work of genius.

Surprised to find I haven’t reviewed this one yet since I just listened to the series for the fourth time now. And it won’t be the last.

Since this is the third book in the series I hardly need encourage anyone. If you’ve got this far you’re already hooked

Mark Lawrence would have us believe he spewed these works out largely unedited in streams of consciousness. If so, well, I’m very humbled. But- I’m humbled either way.

Not to say that I love all parts of it as much as the others. I never was a huge fan of the undead, ghouls, necromancy, and all of that rot, which pervades this book even more than the other two.

Still… This book, like the other two, is magic. Really amazing. Don’t even hesitate.

James Clamp’s deadpan narration is incredible- perfect for the books, with very few exceptions. Again- the undead,

Belated congratulations to the author. Thanks Mark Lawrence. Much respect.

The ending of this story was very disapointing.

The story ended in a way I loath for fantasy stories. "Magic" lost or saved is too old and boring of a trope that just needs to die. Die hard, fast and with no remorse.
