About this listen

"One of fantasy’s best series."—Booklist, starred review

Game of Thrones meets Fourth Wing in a debut young adult fantasy that's full of rivalry, romance . . . and dragons.

Annie and Lee were just children when a brutal revolution changed their world, giving everyone—even the lowborn—a chance to test into the governing class of dragonriders.

Now they are both rising stars in the new regime, despite backgrounds that couldn't be more different. Annie's lowborn family was executed by dragonfire, while Lee's aristocratic family was murdered by revolutionaries. Growing up in the same orphanage forged their friendship, and seven years of training have made them rivals for the top position in the dragonriding fleet.

But everything changes when survivors from the old regime surface, bent on reclaiming the city.

With war on the horizon and his relationship with Annie changing fast, Lee must choose to kill the only family he has left or to betray everything he's come to believe in. And Annie must decide whether to protect the boy she loves . . . or step up to be the champion her city needs.

From debut author Rosaria Munda comes a gripping adventure that calls into question which matters most: the family you were born into, or the one you've chosen.

a solid political fantasy

a great start to a trilogy. love the worldbuilding and the inherently grey morality of it. the narrator's for Lee and Annie are amazing and embody the characters perfectly.

A little boring

it's a good story but it's a slow burn and left me feeling unfulfilled. I'm not sure if it's worth continuing on with the next book or not.

Dragons & war

Wow: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🎧The politics and ethical issues posed in this novel are so well done. The pure love of children from opposite sides is beautiful. This story is intense and beautifully written as well as narrated. I can’t help but think that this is what stories are meant to be entertaining while also meaningful. My only criticism is that it’s unclear what era or type or time the book takes place in there are carriages and spired buildings but pens and flame retardant suits. Regardless, it’s a great read. If you’re looking for a book with war, dragons, the purest of loves, and philosophical ideas this is the book for you.

🔔Content notes: mild language sporadically (he**, basta**,sh**), kisses and embraces, fantasy violence, childhood trauma, anxiety, and ptsd, war

Terrible if you have this to do

I cannot believe how addictive this is. Great book. I started and couldn't stop. The story is very interesting and the narration is well done.
