About this listen

He is one of the most haunting characters in all of literature. At last the evolution of his evil is revealed.

Hannibal Lecter emerges from the nightmare of the Eastern Front, a boy in the snow, mute, with a chain around his neck. He seems utterly alone, but he has brought his demons with him. Hannibal’s uncle, a noted painter, finds him in a Soviet orphanage and brings him to France, where Hannibal will live with his uncle and his uncle’s beautiful and exotic wife, Lady Murasaki. Lady Murasaki helps Hannibal to heal. With her help he flourishes, becoming the youngest person ever admitted to medical school in France. But Hannibal’s demons visit him and torment him. When he is old enough, he visits them in turn. He discovers he has gifts beyond the academic, and in that epiphany, Hannibal Lecter becomes death’s prodigy.

What the critics say

“There are images of morbid beauty here.... Harris' handling of the wartime violence is also impressive, as swift and vicious as the blitzkrieg itself.” (Los Angeles Times)

“Gripping detail.... [Harris] moves the story along at an impressively fast clip.” (Boston Globe)

FffffffffffFantastic.....

I have been an avid fan for the Hannibal series since I first saw, The Silence of the Lambs. I decided to take the opportunity to add the novel's by Thomas Harris to my growing collection of audiobooks.
like most books, there is much more to the inner working and mentality in a book then ever can be put into a movie. I love hearing the novel because I feel I get more out of it.
Worth checking out if you are a fan for Hannibal or just the McCobb.
I know that Thomas was dirty involved in the movie script adaptation of his book, it carrying well. the book just gives you a bit more along with some differences. see if you can pick them out.
Thomas Harris is an amazing writer, but he lacks substance in his narrative. he seemed to have a hard time in bringing out afflictions. or to bring his world to life verbally.
All in all, a very enjoyable listen. As ever my deepest thank to every one involved in making this book available for the public's enjoyment. Your truly David Evil Midknight

It was a little hard to follow

Maybe it was all the European names but I found it a little hard to follow and therefore my focus kept drifting. I found I was repeatedly rewinding it just to zone out again. I listened to the end but can’t tell you how it ended. That’s not normal for me. Having the author narrate was much better than Hannibal or Red Dragon.

A great listen

Gives a great insight into Hannibal Lecter's early life and how he became what he is now. Great music and ambiance.
