About this listen

Jim Dale's Grammy Award-winning performance of J.K. Rowling's iconic stories is a listening adventure for the whole family.

'There is a plot, Harry Potter. A plot to make most terrible things happen at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry this year.'

Close your eyes and enter the magical world of Harry Potter. In these editions, Jim Dale's characterful narration is so entertaining, fun, and theatrical you can almost hear the crackle of the fire in the Gryffindor common room.

Harry Potter's summer has included the worst birthday ever, doomy warnings from a house-elf called Dobby, and rescue from the Dursleys by his friend Ron Weasley in a magical flying car! Back at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for his second year, Harry hears strange whispers echo through empty corridors - and then the attacks start. Students are found as though turned to stone... Dobby's sinister predictions seem to be coming true.

Having become classics of our time, the Harry Potter stories never fail to bring comfort and escapism. With their message of hope, belonging and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

Fabulous Book, Okay Narrator

Obviously the book is a well-loved classic, and I knew that re-reading this in audible form, I would love it just as much. However, the narrator is not at all my favorite. It was read at a good pace and the descriptions and general story were easy to listen to, but the way he read people's voices and conversations bugged me a lot. He would drag out words that I would read short, and changed the way characters said things from the way they are described. It made a lot of the talking points a bit hard to listen to, it got a bit irksome! I may be being a bit hard on it though, as I have read the books so many times and watched the movies, that things are burned in my mind a certain way and I don't love when it is changed up.

Jim Dale is the best

Combining Rowling’s HP stories and Jim Dale’s story telling and you get some of the best content audible has to offer. I fell is love with this audiobook in 2003 but it was on CD’s borrowed from the library. Had to track down a discman haha

Jim Dale is a winner

I’m a big fan of Dale as a narrator. The story is as magical as the first time I read it!

Good Story, Very Similar to the First

I found a lot of similarities in the plot between this book and the first. If I hadn't already moved on to the third I'd be worried they were all just the first book but written slightly differently. Having listened to this audio book, this is my first time "reading" the Harry Potter series. I'm not sure I see yet what the big hype is and why everyone seems to love these books so much, but they do set you up to want to keep reading and I shall!

As for the performance of the book by Jim Dale, I feel his voice is something you have to let grow on you. As each book progresses I find I like his style a little more than when I listened to the first book.

Near perfection!

I think the world at large is aware of Harry Potter and all his adventures and maybe we tend to think of them movies right away but these audiobooks are so well produced they’re my definitive Harry Potter experience. They capture the voices and moments better than my imagination ever did and journeys last longer than the movies. A true treat for any fan; or fan in the making taking their first steps into Hogwarts.

Excellent except for one thing

Love this and the way it is read, except for the fact the reader says “Voldemore” instead of “Voldemort”
