About this listen

As far as the east is from the west...

Marcus Battle is tired of the world. And he's certain the world is tired of him.

But when an old friend needs his help, he steps back into the violence and corruption he's fought for so long to avoid.

A decade after he disappeared north of the wall that separated his Texas from the rest of what used to be his country, an oppressive government threatens the only people alive for whom he cares and who care about him.

He'll sacrifice everything to keep them safe, and he'll travel one more time to places no man should have to go.

A dip in the overall quality of this book series

Compared to books 1-6, Hero was a bit of a let down for me. A population police, an Underground Railroad and coyote human smugglers didn't quite compare to the memorable antagonists from past books. Hero took me much longer to slog through as I could only tolerate 30 minute chunks whereas with books 1-6, I gladly deprived myself of sleep to binge listen. Nevertheless, Kevin Pierce is one of my top 2 most favourite narrators and he doesn't disappoint.
