For so many entrepreneurs, running a small business ended up looking different than they imagined. They’re stressed, discouraged, and not confident in their plan for growth. In How to Grow Your Small Business, Donald Miller gives entrepreneurs a 6-step plan to grow their businesses so they produce dependable, predictable results.

Using the exact steps you’ll learn in this book, Donald Miller grew his small business from four employees working out of a basement to a 15 million dollar operation, increasing revenue sixfold in just six years. As Miller grew his own business from the ground up, he realized nobody had put together a simple, step-by-step playbook for growing a business. That book didn’t exist. Until now.

In this book, you’ll learn the 6 steps to grow a successful small business and create a playbook to implement them—your Flight Plan. When you have a completed Flight Plan in hand, you can stop drowning in the details and spend more time doing the things you truly love—in your business and your life.

Great listen for baby entrepreneurs

I like this book and in the beginning I was super excited about it. It gives actionable steps on how to write a business plan, get clear on your messaging and vision, and cultivating that culture throughout your company by being completely aligned from top to bottom on your goals and mission statement across all internal and external interactions of your company.

I found the redirect mentions constantly to the website to be a bit annoying tbh but maybe that’s just me. There’s a lot of worksheets included so if you’re into that its great. I also found it was very repetitive at points, most people looking for books in business have some knowledge on it and not every thing needs to be explained in intense depth. I felt like a lot of the time spent was beating a dead horse on concepts that are extremely basic.

This book is better suited for new people in business who don’t know how to sell a brand using a story, or to find their messaging. If thats you then ignore this review because it will teach you how to be a story brand + foster a community through interesting sales and marketing.

If you are more experienced in business, you may think this is passive listening and good reminders, but I’d look for something else more specific to the skill or scale you want to achieve.

I don’t think its badly written and I don’t at all doubt the success of the author’s business, I just found it to be not as applicable to my companies. I’d still read the next book from this author if he goes into detail on scaling up a company that makes GP over $1m annually, bootstrapping tactics, securing venture capital, business and mentorship investments, maybe something a bit more advanced than this.

Overall still a nice listen while working + I appreciate that these books are now available to help entrepreneurs improve their business and get clear on their messaging.
