About this listen

In this wildly funny and heart-warming office comedy, an admin worker accidentally gains access to her colleagues’ private emails and DMs and decides to use this intel to save her job. A laugh-till-you-cry debut novel you’ll be eager to share with your entire list of contacts, perfect for fans of Anxious People and Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.

As far as Jolene is concerned, her interactions with her colleagues should start and end with her official duties as an admin for Supershops, Inc. Unfortunately, her irritating, incompetent coworkers don’t seem to understand the importance of boundaries. Her secret to survival? She vents her grievances in petty email postscripts, then changes the text colour to white so no one can see. That is, until one of her secret messages is exposed. Her punishment: sensitivity training (led by the suspiciously friendly HR guy, Cliff) and rigorous email restrictions.

When an IT mix-up grants her access to her entire department’s private emails and DMs, Jolene knows she should report it, but who could resist reading what their coworkers are really saying? And when she discovers layoffs are coming, she realizes this might just be the key to saving her job. The plan is simple: gain her boss’s favour, convince HR she’s Supershops material and beat out the competition.

But as Jolene is drawn further into her coworker’s private worlds and secrets, her carefully constructed walls begin to crumble—especially around Cliff, who she definitely cannot have feelings for. Soon she will need to decide if she’s ready to leave the comfort of her cubicle, even if it means coming clean to her colleagues.

Crackling with laugh-out-loud dialogue and relatable observations, I Hope This Finds You Well is a fresh and surprisingly tender comedy about loneliness and love beyond our computer screens. This sparkling debut novel will open your heart to the everyday eccentricities of work culture and the undeniable human connection that comes with it.

Editorial Review

A comedy of corporate errors”
While Working her desk job may not have been Jolene’s dream, but now, caught in an HR debacle that has granted her access to all the nasty emails her colleagues have been writing about her, she is living a true corporate nightmare. And, as you can imagine, I Hope This Finds You Well found me with a satisfied smirk on my face because listening to petty (yet presumably private) grievances unfold among co-workers is always entertaining. In addition to offering hours of juicy gossip (that I couldn’t wait to share with my fellow editors in our own office space), Natalie Sue’s debut moved me with its unapologetically honest look at how human nature clashes with corporate culture. —Haley H., Audible Editor

Great story

Took a chance on this as it didn’t have many reviews and I’m not familiar with the author. Glad I did! It tackles some dark subjects but remains dry and witty, laughed out loud several times.

Depressing Read about a Toxic Workplace

While the writing and narration was well done, I did not enjoy this book. Other than Cliff, all the characters were toxic and depressing. And while I get that was the point, it made it very hard to believe the relationship between Cliff and Jolene, I just never felt the attraction. I wanted to like the characters, and I did feel for them as we got to know each of their tragic back stories, but for me it didn't excuse their mean, toxic behavior. And while there was character growth and transformation, it just was too depressing of a read for me.

Brilliantly hilarious and relatable

I loved the character development. So much dry humour while discussing some pretty heavy topics. Great book!

Not a comedy. Just sad

It’s a fairly good story but not a comedy. Generally just sad. The main character is not as sympathetic as I think she’s supposed to be. The narrator is excellent but the main character voice is a bit tiring to listen too. She’s interpreted as a very exhausting self pitying person very hard to listen to this long.

I’m still figuring out if I really liked it.

Comfort listen

I enjoyed every minute of this audiobook; the pace and interesting paths the storyline developed along kept me interested and invested. As a xennial Canadian woman I related to many of the social scenarios and locales described by the author. Looking forward to reading more if this authors’ work in the future 👍🏻👍🏻

A fun and enjoyable story

I got this book on speculation and was pleasantly surprised. It’s every office worker’s story. We’ve all worked with a Caitlin, and we’ve all had crummy bosses, and there’s always an office “mom”. I found it funny and heartwarming.

Nothing

Sorry can’t finish. The story is going nowhere. The tone is unbearable. Boring as hell and not an ounce of humour.
