Publisher's Summary

If Spook Street is where spies live, Joe Country is where they go to die.

In Slough House, the London outpost for disgraced spies of MI5, memories are stirring, all of them bad. Catherine Standish is buying booze again, Louisa Guy is raking over the ashes of lost love, and new recruit Lech Wicinski, whose sins make him outcast even among the slow horses, is determined to discover who destroyed his career, even if he tears his life apart in the process.

Meanwhile, in Regent's Park, Diana Taverner's tenure as First Desk is running into difficulties. If she's going to make the Service fit for purpose, she might have to make deals with a familiar old devil....

And with winter taking its grip, Jackson Lamb would sooner be left brooding in peace, but even he can't ignore the dried blood on his carpets. So when the man responsible breaks cover at last, Lamb sends the slow horses out to even the score.

Another winner

I really enjoyed this book - lots of action and intrigue and surprises as well. I’ve read them all to this point and am ready to embark on the next one in the series. Hoping they never end!

Unique

Mick Herron writes beautifully, the mystery is, for me, secondary to the amazing writing in his novels. In addition, the dark, wry humour keeps me engaged and smiling throughout. Not to everyone’s taste obviously but definitely to mine.

Really great and really disappointing!!😡

Mike Herrons writing keeps on getting better. Bravo! Funny. Great imagery. Character development.

However, many books in and MI5 staff can’t negotiate a snowstorm in Wales and their major antagonists are still their direct superiors. Same cast of villains as Book 1 minus several Trek-like redshirted horses who have been expended.

The Lamb sized hangover is finally coming into focus.

Please improve the storyline to match the quality of your imagery.
