À propos de cet audio

The magical world of Yensere holds the key to saving humanity from a horrific apocalypse. Too bad Nick can only get there in his dreams.

When an ancient alien artifact chooses research cadet Nick to explore the world stored within it—a place full of forgotten empires, heroes with strange powers, and monstrous creatures that he is automatically transported to when he sleeps—he finds he has no choice but to grow stronger within the realm of Yensere to uncover its mysteries.

But Yensere isn’t all fun exploration. In this land guided by statistics and levels, Nick is seen as a demonic threat by its diseased inhabitants and always killed on-sight. When he dies in Yensere, he awakens in his bed upon the research station, his body in a state of panic; when he sleeps again, Yensere drags him back for another life...and another death.

Nick can only keep this up for so long before he dies for real. But there’s a good chance Yensere holds the key to saving humanity from a terrible fate, and so he ventures on, getting stronger and stronger with each new enemy defeated. And there are a LOT of enemies to defeat…

I have a soft spot for the isekai genre, and this one qualifies. Discovering an ancient alien artifact, the youngest crewmember of a science station ends up in a fantasy world in his dreams - only to discover he is a hated demon there, and hunted and killed... repeatedly. Every time, he wakes up in his own bed again. Meanwhile, the crew is desperately seeking answers to a black sun that appears in the fantasy world - and around a system that suddenly disappeared. Good stuff.

The writing is solid, the dialogue is fine, and the book doesn't bore you with game stats and character sheets all the time. But I don't think I'll be reading the sequel. One complaint is that the plot of the book doesn't seem to be moving forward, which is a shame - it's one of the things this genre rarely does at all, and this book seemed to have the potential to do it well. But the larger problem is that the book got MUCH darker than I was expecting, with actual scenes of torture - both physical and psychological - that were too realistic for my tastes. If you can accept that, this book was enjoyable and interesting - but I guess I have a weak stomach.

Interesting book, but darker than I expected

Characters are not well developed and weak, story is poor and seeks superpowers. Overall it’s a mess I didn’t like it, regret buying it but you may like it.

Not well thought out
