Story
We say some people march to the beat of a different drummer. But implicit in this cliché is that the rest of us march to the same beat. We sleepwalk through life, find ourselves on well-worn paths that were never ours to walk, and become a silent extra. Extraordinary people carve their own paths as leaders and creators. They think and act with genuine independence. They stand out from the crowd because they embody their own shape and color. We call these people geniuses—as if they’re another breed. But genius isn’t for a special few. It can be cultivated. This book will show you how.

Huston Smith, tirelessly working to promote cross-cultural religious and spiritual tolerance. Richard Alpert, aka Ram Dass, inspiring generations with his mantra "be here now". Sales is a skill anyone can learn and master - and introverts are especially good at it once they learn how to leverage their natural strengths. Introverts aren't comfortable with traditional tactics like aggressively pushing a product or talking over a customer's objections. That's the beauty of The Introvert's Edge: it doesn't focus on the sale itself but on a sales system that helps introverts feel sincere instead of sales-y.

Story
Joe De Sena has spent his life running toward challenge and discomfort. Why? Because how we react to challenging situations defines us and our families. The only tools we have as humans to survive the many peaks and valleys of a full life are preparedness, health, leadership, and most importantly, resilience. Why do so many parents struggle to finish things we start, delay gratification, and protect our health - and why do our kids continue to struggle in every facet of life? Because we haven’t showed them a path to resilience, and we haven’t fought for it ourselves.

Unexpectedly good
I didn’t expect much. Like many I have read many books about improving performance and may find tidbits here and there but largely fluff. I don’t know if I would say there is any mind blowing new idea in this book but its lack of fluff, questions and suggestions presented in an enjoyable manner can help anyone who is thinking of leveling up from where you are at. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Rob Dial has changed my life
I have many similarities to Rob’s upbringing. I had an alcoholic parent too, who abandoned me very young. It was my mother, unfortunately, and although my dad wasn’t an alcoholic, he was quite absent. J was on my own by 14, left school, was homeless, etc. I married an alcoholic, had two kids, he left us with 50 000 in debt and I was working two jobs trying to pay it, raise my kids and keep our house. I wasn’t successful. Fast forward many years, I went to university, earned a HBSc a MSc and pursued a PhD (in progress), but I still was trapped in a victim mindset, didn’t truly believe in my self worth and limited my progress in spite of achieving very high grades and accolades. I also continually found myself in poor relationships and allowed myself to be treated poorly. Fast forward many years and I’m going through the most painful and difficult breakup yet. It triggered so many things that I thought I had dealt with, and I realized I couldn’t go on like I had been. Things needed to change. I started running, and meditating daily, I started building good habits and changing patterns and I was constantly thirsty for more. I found Robs podcast when I was searching for podcasts on how to grow my meditation practice. Rob’s podcast has literally changed my life. All aspects of my life have been improved and have benefited from his suggestions and advice. I am eternally grateful to Rob, and when I graduate, become a better parent, soccer player, friend, and professor, it will be a result of his guidance that created more growth than I could have managed on my own. Rob, thank you so much for all you do. I was working through things on my own, but I wouldn’t be anywhere close to where I currently am without you. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge, experience and perspective with the world. All the very best to you.
Ps-the book is really good too! ;)
