About this listen
Marjorie Morningstar is a love story. It presents one of the greatest characters in modern fiction: Marjorie, the pretty 17-year-old who left the respectability of New York's Central Park West to join the theater, live in the teeming streets of Greenwich Village, and seek love in the arms of a brilliant, enigmatic writer. In this memorable novel, Herman Wouk, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, has created a story as universal, as sensitive, and as unmistakably authentic as any ever told.

Hard slog
Couldn't get through this one. Very dated language; too many unsympathetic characters. Yeah, young people think they know it all...and they don't. We don't need this many words to tell us something we already know. I might recommend this as an historical artifact, but only for the most hardy listener.

Time Well Spent
"Marjorie Morningstar" is a beautifully-written, if overly-long novel set in the 1930-1950 period in the U.S.A. The characters are brilliantly drawn and the scenes are true to life and most compelling. Marjorie's quest for stardom represents the American dream. Her relationships with family members, friends of both sexes and various acquaintances are extremely interesting and thought-evoking. There is much humor and pathos to be found in the pages of this story. I found the book to be an educational experience and the overall philosophical underpinnings to be thoughtful and meaningful. The Jewish background of most of the characters in the book will resonate most strongly with Jewish readers but readers of all backgrounds will enjoy this work.
Reading this book is definitely time well spent.
