Great Series
Sucked me in really like the series so far, just wish each book was longer. Really enjoy the two narrators for male and female voices.

Expected So much more, should of known better
I have several books from this author, all of them are juvenile escapism... however this books easily has the most infuriating MC, writing, narration of any of the other books.. and this seems to be one of the newer ones.
I have never wanted to take a MC and choke them out in the first chapter and end the book more than i have with this book or MC.
There is no maturity, depth or redeeming character in the MC, it is just juvenile quips, insults and sarcasm regardless of the tone or gravity of the interaction or meeting.... The master of a mage school, better be a insulting asshat expect favors and act like a 9yr old during testing and evaluation, not once does he show deference to those more powerful or knowledgable or acknowledge any favors or assistance provided... i honestly doubt he ever closed a door on the way out of a room.
Oh you have special magic metal powers, better invent gunpowder, primers, cartridge ammo, single action revolvers and a lever action rifles over 3 days (which the MC has never seen or used) in a contrived manner... let's skip cannons, rimfire rounds, and bolt action rifles as who needs modern military equipment and tactics which are desperately needed by his adoptive kingdom..
Instead you can have an OP MC.... who never tests his weapons to see if they even cycle before putting live ammo in them, who gets his love interest to hip fire a small cannon.. in a building.. as a first time test... TBH i'm surprised he just didn't invent a 1911 for style points...
Yes i accept that this is not hard fiction, and there are elves and giant monsters... but still, a likable MC who i didn't want to beat to death with a stick within the first 10 mins would a good start and perhaps a passing review of the history of firearms.
Hell an easy solution to all the problematic aspects of the guns could of been addressed with the metal mage being able to move metal quickly, but large masses take exponential more power and inaccurate in general (he just learned about his powers 5 days ago)... just use the guns for rifling and aiming, even use different cartridges for slug, shot and fitchette rounds... use his magic to actually accelerate the rounds... he gets guns that cannot be used against him, do not explode and do not require intricate manufacturing understanding to create.... it doesnt address the waste of ink that the MC is though.

Cringey as hell
Sounds like it was written and read by a horny 15 year old boy.
