Publisher's Summary

My name is Katniss Everdeen. Why am I not dead? I should be dead.

Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss’ family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.

It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans - except Katniss.

The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss’ willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels’ Mockingjay - no matter what the personal cost.

Many people equate "growing up" with "growing serious." But while interests may change over time, age does not have to be the deciding factor in what games you play, movies, or books you enjoy. Young adult novels are the perfect example of this. Though written with a teenage audience in mind, women of all ages are sure to enjoy the genre’s hallmarks: strong yet flawed characters, heartbreaking twists and turns, romance, and drama.

Amazing story and excellently narrated. I'm not convinced this is a story for children, I enjoyed it.

Still a great book

With the upcoming new movie coming out in November, I decided to revisit Panem and the world of the Hunger Games. While I have previously read the first two books a few times, I have only read Mockingjay once, until now. The book is so well crafted, and the ending remains deeply powerful. Tatiana Maslany’s narration is excellent, and makes Katniss so much more human and accessible. Her reading is the last 2 chapters broke my heart all over again.

tatiana’s voice work was excellent. story wise this one is harder to make it through than the others but that ending always gets me.

So Well Done

Well narrated. Amazing book. Tragedy, Love and trials brought to an end through so much destruction and just amazingly spoken through Tatiana Maslany.

Highly recommend listening to the book if you’re on the fence. My boyfriend and I read the whole series and feel changed and touched by the narrator and the book itself.

Well done Suzanne Collins.

Entertaining YA-Flavored Dystopian Fantasy

Katniss Everdeen finds herself in the midst of a Civil War in Panem that has been brewing for years: boiling down to 'District 13' versus 'The Capitol'. Her role is largely as a propaganda tool - but she also actively fights for the Rebels (shooting explosive-tipped arrows like Rambo.. I'm not kidding).
Suzanne Collins is a little heavyhanded in her "Injustice of War" messaging and her action scripting is sometimes ludicrous.. but this book maintains many of the elements that make this series so popular (Katniss is a fascinating "flawless but flawed" character, for example).

As to presentation: Reader Tatiana Maslany sounds somewhat disinterested on this project for some reason. To be certain, her diction, timbre, cadence, and voice-acting are commendable - but she often sounds like she's reading a book lying open on her lap. Her performances in Books One & Two of this series are faaaaar superior to this one.
(Note: the vicious humanoid creatures known as Muts are "Mutes" as in "mutants".. not "Mutts". The persistent mispronunciation gets to be annoying)

Altogether, 'Mockingjay' is the weakest of the 'Hunger Games' trilogy.. meriting 7 stars out of 10. Despite deficiencies in plotting and delivery, it ties up the series nicely, however. It's worth the Credit.

if you haven't heard already great series

yeah I watched the movies first and after reading the books was disappointed in myself, the books are better and I highly suggest every one interested reads them, but if you have a hard time dealing with a darker story just be aware child blood is split in the first book and it only gets more grim from there

Incredible

I saw the movie before reading this book so i wasnt sure if I would like ir. The book is incredible, the narrator is the best I've heard and now that I'm finished I'm depressed that it's over.
